Port Adelaide Guineas 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There are 14 runners lining up for the $107,250 Port Adelaide Guineas with five fillies, one colt and eight geldings. Five runners are last-start winners and one runner is still a maiden. Four of the runners had their last start in a 3YO colts & geldings race over 1550m at Morphettville Parks on 26 March while the others came through different races. Danny O’Brien is the only trainer with two runners and there are several Victorian raiders.

The early favourite is the filly Daisies who won the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley last start which was her second Group 3 win as she won the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield in the spring. Second favourite is Harleymoven who was an impressive 4.5 length winner over 1550m at Morphettville Parks last outing. Third in the market is Blackcomb who was a 1.5 length winner in a maiden plate at Pakenham last start.

Saint Tropez bolted in for a 2.5 length win at Pakenham last start. Palani finished less than 2 lengths away after being checked over 1600m at Flemington. Reset The Jazz comes off 3.4 lengths 5th in the Mornington Guineas, while Alors Tu Crois finished 2nd over 2000m at Ballarat. All other runners are currently 25 to 1 or longer.

2022 Port Adelaide Guineas Runner by Runner

1. Saint Tropez

This three-year-old Not A Single Doubt colt trained by Lloyd Kennewell at Cranbourne has three wins and a place from eight starts. He bolted in for a 2.5 length win over 1600m at Pakenham last start and could be in the finish.

2. Harleymoven

He was an impressive 4.5 length winner over 1550m at Morphettville Parks on 26 March last outing, and three other runners in this race also had their last run there. Trained by Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray at Murray Bridge, he is one of the key chances.

3. Residue

This Shooting To Win gelding trained by Mick Huxtable at Murray Bridge finished 2nd behind Harleymoven last start and was 5th in the Listed Morphettville Guineas the start before. He has drawn the outside barrier but is still a rough place chance.

4. Reset The Jazz

Ben & JD Hayes train this Rest gelding who has a win and two places from six starts. He comes off 3.4 lengths 5th in the Mornington Guineas over 1600m. Has drawn wide. Looking to others.

5. Palani

One of two runners for Danny O’Brien. This Zoustar gelding finished 4th less than 2 lengths away after being checked over 1600m at Flemington. Not the worst.

6. Shalaga

From the Robert Hickmott stable. Narrow winner last start to break his maiden at Ballarat at start number seven. Gets the blinkers on for the first time. Prefer to watch.

7. Boolcunda King

Has only had four starts but has won one and placed twice. Finished 5 lengths 4th behind Harleymoven last outing and can improve. Jockey Dom Tourneur has won this race before on Grand Chancellor in 2017.

8. Aitch D’amico

Finished 4.6 lengths 3rd behind Harleymoven last outing, but hasn’t won or placed in three trips to Morphettville. Jockey Paul Gatt won this race on Mowglii back in 2000. Looking elsewhere.

9. Alpine Beau

This Alpine Eagle gelding trained by John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs is the only maiden in the field. He ran on well for 3.5 lengths 2nd over 1500m at Gawler last start, but appears tested.

10. Daisies

A Sebring filly trained by Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr). She won the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley last start which was her second Group 3 win as she won the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield in the spring. Mick Price has won this race before with Echoes Of Heaven 2011. Will be tough to beat and is one of the main chances.

11. Blackcomb

One of the Danny O’Brien runners. This Vancouver filly was a 1.5 length winner in a maiden plate at Pakenham last start. Has drawn wide. In the mix.

12. Alors Tu Crois

This So You Think filly trained by Henry Dwyer finished 2nd over 2000m at Ballarat on a heavy track last start. Drawn barrier 1 and not the worst.

13. Toropeak

Has one win and five places from 10 starts. Hard to have.

14. Susanne Joy

Finished 11.3 lengths last of 11 in a BM 64 over 1700m at Warrnambool last start. Trained by Leon & Troy Corstens who won this race with Spring Choice in 2018, This is too tough.
