Fernhill Mile Handicap – 2022

Eight runners have accepted for the $150,000 Listed Fernhill Mile Handicap and there have been no early scratchings. The David Payne stable is saddling up two runners in the event whilst the other stables only have one entry each.

Williamsburg is the early favourite after winning at Schweppervescence Stakes on a bottomless track at Rosehill, which ended up being called off and transferred to Newcastle. Moko finished second behind Williamsburg that day and is second favourite for this race.

Matcha Latte is on the third line of betting and was the third horse behind Williamsburg and Moko last start.

Won well last start on the bottomless track. The draw isn’t the worst. Goes up 2kg from that run which may come into play late.

2. Moko (2)

Gets a 1kg swing for the 0.25 of a length defeat. Arguably should have won. Big chance to go one better.

3. Russian Roni (8)

Heavy track winner in maiden grade at Newcastle. Place maybe.

4. Field Commander (4)

First-up. Hasn’t shown much on race day or trials.

Can’t have.

6. Matcha Latte (3)

Gets a 2.5kg swing on Williamsburg for a massive defeat. Will run a race but place chance at best.
