Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 2022

Track: Heavy Weather: Showers.

Nine runners have accepted for the $4,000,000 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. Every stable only has one entry each.

Verry Elleegant has opened the early favourite on the back of her Ranvet Stakes run, where she finished second to rival Montefilia. Over the last two running of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Verry Elleegant went down at the hands of the European raider Addeybb, so she will be looking to finally go one better on Saturday. Zaaki is next in the betting and he is coming off his brilliant performance in the All-Star Mile, where he saluted by 1.25 lengths and some say it could have been by more.

Rounding out the top 3 in the betting is the lone three-year-old in Anamoe. He was dominant in the Rosehill Guineas, saluting by over 7 lengths, and he is looking to become the first three-year-old to win the race since Intergaze in 1997.

1. Think It Over (4)

Back to 2000m is a plus but the wet ground doesn’t play into his favour.

2. Zaaki (3)

Has been set for this. Handles the soft going but is untested in these conditions. Big chance if he handles this.

3. I’m Thunderstruck (6)

On the quick backup from the Doncaster Mile. Handled the ground but yet to run 2000m and hasn’t won at WFA.

4. Mount Popa (8)

Handles the conditions and is fighting fit after two 2000m runs. This is much harder.

5. Dalasan (1)

Can’t have it on the recent form.

6. Verry Elleegant (7)

Convincingly beaten last start. It hasn’t been her best preparation and I suspect she wants further now. Should still run a bold race.

7. Duais (9)

Amazing in the Tancred Stakes. Going for three-in-a-row. Looks to handle the conditions and back to 2000m suits.

8. Montefilia (2)

Handled Verry Elleegant with ease last start. 2000m suits and conditions do as well. Looks like a top chance.

9. Anamoe (5)

Has been winning this preparation but nowhere near as good as the Spring. Should run a big race regardless.
