Ladies Day Vase 2023 Race Details

Race 8 at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday the 14th October 2023.

The Ladies Day Vase is a Group 3 race held at Caulfield racecourse over 1600m. It is for mares four-years-old and upwards and run under set weights and penalties conditions. The total prizemoney this year is $200,000.

Following the early scratchings of Thalassophile and Chandon Burj, 11 mares remain for the 2023 Ladies Day Vase. There are six 4YOs, two 5YOs, two 6YOs and one 7YO. Five runners had their last start in a Mares BM84 Handicap over 1400m at Caulfield on 23rd September (won by Nunthorpe) and two in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley on 29th September, while the others came via different races. Trainer Greg Eurell has 2 runners.

The early favourite is Wishlor Lass who has won 4 of her 6 starts and comes off a 2.5 length win. The second favourite is Nunthorpe who has won 4 of her 7 starts and is going for a hat-trick here. Third favourite is Barbie’s Fox who finished 1.2 lengths 4th in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap last outing. Papillon Club finished 7th in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes behind Amelia’s Jewel, while Foxy Frida finished 5 length 10th in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes last outing. All other runners are currently at double-figure odds.

She finished 1.2 lengths 4th in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap last outing where she only got clear in the final 120m and should have been in the finish. Winning chance.

5. Party Princess (8)

Ran 5 lengths 4th in the Stocks Stakes which was a solid effort in a tougher race. Not the worst.

6. She’s A Con (2)

Won a Listed race in New Zealand back in April. Changed trainer to Graham Begg in September and was 5th behind Nunthorpe at her first Australian start. Place chance

7. Chandon Burj (12) – SCRATCHED

8. Nunthorpe (9)

Has won 4 of her 7 starts. Last start winner of the Mares BM84 Handicap over 1400m at Caulfield on 23rd September that several others in this field also ran in, and is going for a hat-trick here.

Resumed for 4th behind Nunthorpe on 23rd September. Generally takes improvement second-up. Place chance.

10. Wishlor Lass (6)

Has won 4 of her 6 starts and comes off a 2.5 length win over 1400m at Sandown Hillside on 1st October. One of the main chances.

11. No Secret (11)

Finished over 10 lengths last behind Nunthorpe on 23rd September. Looking elsewhere.

12. Our Red Morning (3)

Put 3 good wins in a row together at Mornington, Caulfield and Sandown before finishing 6th behind Nunthorpe last start. Can bounce back and be in the finish.

13. Tajneed (4)

Gets winkers on for the first time. Rough place chance.
