Autumn Stakes – 2023

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Nine three year olds have accepted for the running of this years Group 2 Autumn Stakes – one of the stronger fields assembled for this race in recent years.  Amenable shades the Godolphin colt Pericles as an early favourite in betting markets.  Calico Jack, a last start winner at this track is on the next line of betting.

1. Mr Maestro

One of three Andrew Forsman gallopers down to run Saturday.  He won three times here in the spring before running a solid fourth in the VRC Derby.  May just find these a touch too sharp first up.

2. Virtuous Circle

Was a good second in a strong edition of the Vase at the Valley before spelling.  Another who may just find these a touch sharp first up.  Look for him hitting the line hard with Derby’s in mind later in the prep.

3. The Fortune Teller

Not beaten far in the Caulfield Guineas, before a closing third in the Carbine Club.  Form reads solid enough to be competitive here first up.

4. Pericles

Had a messy first prep but his talent was there for everyone to see.  His recent jump outs suggest he’s sharp enough to win first up here at the seven furlongs.

5. Amenable

Talented colt who just kept getting too far back last prep.  Was home hard in all three runs including the Caulfield Guineas where he should of gone close to winning.  Has settled handier in recent jump outs but likely to have to go back here from barrier 8.  Will be charging late.

6. Calico Jack

Fit horse who has scored easily at his last two against much weaker opposition.  Can find the front here and may take some running down.

7. Glint Of Silver

The other horse in the event with race fitness on his side.  The booking of Shinn and a favourable racing pattern gives him some hope.

8. Artzino

Son of Tarzino who will surely be looking for further than this.  Would be shocked if he could round these up first up.

9. Japanese Emperor

Was very impressive breaking his maiden on heavy ground on debut, then well beaten in the Guineas prelude although did start single figures there.  Jump outs have been solid.  Rough hope.
