Alexandra Stakes – 2023

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Nine fillies have accepted for the last race on the Moonee Valley card – the $200,000 Group 3 Alexandra Stakes.  Papillon Club dominates the early betting and looks the one to beat.  Jenny Jerome is second pick in the market and maps to be closer than last start.  As Time Goes By is one of the better maidens in the country and is on the next line of betting.

1. Papillon Club

Really like this filly.  Was a big effort two back to stick on for third after racing three wide no cover, then was collared right on the line by Group 1 placed filly Revolutionary Miss last start  Faces a much easier assignment here with a favourable map.  Clear top pick.

2. Jenny Jerome

The run last start was much better than the 12 of 13 in the form guide suggests.  Can settle much closer here from the good draw and gets a big jockey change with Blake Shinn taking over from Harry Coffey.  Looks the logical danger to the favourite.

3. As Time Goes By

Gets the blinkers again.  She has some runs from last prep that put her in the mix here.

4. Amati

Was beaten a long way in the Kewney last start.  Looks a place chance at best.

5. Belmia

Sees the mile for the first time here.  Blew the start on a horrifically biased Lakeside track last start and had no chance once that happen.  Could be the big improver.

6. Tass

Bolted in in a pretty weak maiden here last start.  Maps to find the top.

7. Innerbloom

Outclassed.

8. Kildrummie

Outclassed

9. One Last Kiss

Has talent but this is likely to be a bridge too far.
