Tancred Stakes – 2022

Track: Likely Heavy Weather: Chance of showers.

Eleven runners have accepted for the $1,500,000 Group 1 Tancred Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. The Chris Waller stable is saddling up three runners in the event whilst the other stables only have one entry each.

Duais is the early favourite after her brilliant win in the Australian Cup at Flemington. Josh Parr will stick with her here, at a track she has never won on. Spanish Mission is on the next line of betting and he is coming off a 2.8 length third behind Duais in the Australian Cup.

Think It Over rounds out the top three in betting and the third and final horse to be in single figures. He was the runner that split Duais and Spanish Mission in the Australian Cup, and he will look to go one better back home in Sydney.

1. Think It Over (3)

Ran solidly behind Duais last start and has to make up a 1.8 length margin here. 2400m is the query but you cannot knock the form and will race handy.

2. Spanish Mission (11)

He is going to love the extra distance. Probably a better chaser and has the chance here to sit second here, unless they opt to lead again. Expecting an improved run.

3. The Chosen One (6)

Finished no further back than third in his three Group 1 runs in New Zealand. Will love the extra distance here and the wet ground. Could run a big race.

4. Stockman (5)

Ran superbly winning the Sky High Stakes. Will love the extra distance and the rain being around. A top chance.

5. Great House (9)

Ran third behind Stockman in the Sky High Stakes. Probably doesn’t want too much more rain hanging around. Expect a good run with Sydney Cup being the grand final.

6. Angel of Truth (1)

Blinkers On, Visors off. Looks to lead this race. Has run solidly before over this distance.

7. Sheraz (4)

Pre-race earmuffs on. Ran well in the Randwick City Stakes last start. Likely to get a nice run and will appreciate the distance and conditions.

8. Avion Fury (8)

Outclassed.

9. Mightybeel (10)

A bit plain last start. He won’t be liking the extra rain. Distance is positive but will need to improve.

10. She’s Ideel (2)

Laboured a bit in the Australian Cup. 2400m suits and the wet track brings her right into this race.

11. Duais (7)

She is in terrific form. Her best runs over this distance have come on top of the ground, but you cannot knock her form.
