Clare Lindop Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There are 14 fillies lining up for the $107,250 Clare Lindop Stakes. Three of them last started in a 1400m race at Morphettville Parks on 12 March while the rest all came through different lead-ups. Tony & Calvin McEvoy saddle up three runners while the other trainers have one each.

The early favourite is Mac ‘N’ Cheese who resumed from a spell for a strong win over 1200m. Last campaign she was a 2 length winner of the Listed Oaklands Plate over 1400m on a heavy track. Second favourite is Saucey Horsey who is coming off a 1400m win at Hamilton and has won two of her three starts. Third favourite is Perceptive who has the speed to overcome her wide draw

Last Girl Love was narrowly beaten when heavily backed last start at Morphettville Parks and gets the blinkers on for the first time.  Fjord just missed at Cranbourne last start, while The Map has two wins and place from her three starts.  All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2022 Clare Lindop Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Mac ‘N’ Cheese

The early favourite in the race and one of three runners for Tony & Calvin McEvoy. Tony McEvoy trained Russian Caravan to win this race in 2002. Mac ‘N’ Cheese resumed from a spell for a strong win over 1200m. Last campaign she was a 2 length winner of the Listed Oaklands Plate over 1400m on a heavy track. Has to carry 1.5 kg more than any other runner here but still looks the likely winner

2. Saucey Horsey

This So You Think filly trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace is coming off a 1400m win at Hamilton and has won two of her three starts. One of the chances.

3. The Map

She has two wins and place from her three starts, with the latest a 1600m win at Morphettville on 26 February. Trained by Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray who won this race with Blue Morpho in 2018. Should be in the finish.

4. Rich Gina

This Rich Enuff filly was a last start winner at long odds over 1400m at Morphettville Parks giving her a second win from three starts. Showed a good fighting spirit in that run and could place.

5. Perceptive

She faded to finish 11th last start at Flemington when first up but won at Sandown Hillside in her only second-up attempt. Has the speed to overcome her wide draw. In the mix.

6. Toropeak

Won a Pakenham maiden last start at big odds at her 9th start. Not out of it.

7. Starsongari

Won over 1300m at Morphettville Parks on 19 February then was 0.8 length 5th over 1400m last outing when racing tight. Gets the winker on for the first time. Not the worst.

8. Fjord

A Fastnet Rock filly trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman. Anthony won this race with Meuse in 2020. Just missed at Cranbourne last start when heavily backed after a 5.3 length maiden win at Kilmore. In the mix.

9. Last Girl Love

One of the three McEvoy runners, she was narrowly beaten when heavily backed last start at Morphettville Parks and gets the blinkers on for the first time. She has drawn the inside barrier. A nice type who should be in the finish.

10. Cavellita

Broke her maiden status with a narrow win over 1600m at Pakenham on 3 March at her 8th race start. Nicely drawn but this is much harder.

11. Prefer Us

Another from the McEvoy team. She won a maiden plate by 4.7 lengths over 2106m at Gawler on 9 February where she was drawing away from the field with every stride. Has had a six week let-up and is my pick of the roughies.

12. Harbelle

Trained by Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas who won this race with C’est Beau La Vie in 2016. Coming off a maiden win at Balaklava and is up in journey. Looks tested.

13. In The Darkness

This grey Proisir filly is trained by Michael Hickmott at Murray Bridge and has one win from five starts. She faded to finish 11th last start at Murray Bridge but has won a trial since then. This looks too hard.

14. Bay Of Angels

She was a last start winner in a  Broken Hill maiden and this is her first try at metropolitan level. Gets jockey Jessica Eaton who won this race last year on Ecumenical.  Looks tested.
