Emancipation Stakes – 2022

Track: Likely Heavy Weather: Chance of Showers.

Eleven runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 2 Emancipation Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. The Chris Waller stable saddles up two runners in the race whilst the other stables only have one entry each.

The two Victorian visitors are at the top of betting with Annavisto being the early favourite. Her win in the Frances Tressady Stakes was dominant, beating the field home by nearly 3.5 lengths whilst being first-up. The other Victorian is Kissonallforcheeks who was also dominant in her second-up run in the Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap. This was her first start on the Eastern side of Australia and she showed why she was bought over from the West.

Promise of Success is the third line in betting and she is coming off a very good fourth in the Coolmore Classic. She made it into our black book and we really wanted her to draw a gate to sit closer in the run but unfortunately, it hasn’t panned out that way.

1. Hungry Heart (1)

42 days between runs trying to chase a good track. She doesn’t get that here. Can’t have.

2. Krone (2)

It just hasn’t been her preparation, with her fourth placing last start, her best so far. She will get a nice run throughout but she will need to produce something special to win here.

3. Nimalee (8)

Ran a massive race in the Newcastle Newmarket on the heavy surface. Generally performs well second-up and has a sneaky trial to tick her over. Draw isn’t ideal but with speed to her outside and in, she should still be able to find a decent spot in the run.

4. Vangelic (10)

Running below her best at the moment and can’t have.

5. Expat (6)

Ran well in the Coolmore Classic but was no match. Back to Group 2 level, drawn okay but the speed on her outside could make it difficult.

6. Kissonallforcheeks (5)

Should sit in a decent position throughout and does have the form on the wet but not in this grade. Place chance.

7. Annavisto (11)

Drawn wide but will track across easily. Gone well on the soft but unknown in the heavy going. Toughest race for her to date.

8. Mirra Vision (3)

Finished a brilliant second in the Coolmore Classic. Drawn ideally again to sit in a prominent position. Can run another big race.

9. Kiku (4)

Has been okay this preparation but her starts have been costly. Place chance

10. Promise of Success (7)

Was good in the Coolmore Classic coming from a long way back. Needs to be closer in the run to be a chance. Maybe.

11. More Prophets (9)

Can’t have.
