2022 Tulloch Stakes Race Details
Race 2 at Newcastle on Monday 28 March 2022
(It was originally scheduled as Race 4 at Rosehill on Saturday 26th March 2022 but the meeting was abandoned after Race 3). The distance was also reduced to 1850m.
The Tulloch Stakes is a Group 2 2000 metre set weights race for the three-year-old colts and geldings that is run by the Australian Turf Club in March. It is normally run at Rosehill during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Tulloch Stakes 2022 Preview
Track: Likely Heavy Weather: Chance of Showers.
Sixteen runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes and there has been one early scratching. The Chris Waller stable and Baker/Forsman stable will both be saddling up two runners each whilst the other stables only have one entry each.
The early favourite is Sword Point who just finished in fourth place in a benchmark 78 race at Canterbury. Character is next in the betting and his form is much better, after finishing a 2.8 length third in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes.
Third in the betting is Paternal who only just won a benchmark 64 race at Goulburn over the mile.
Tulloch Stakes Runner by Runner
1. Regal Lion (15)
He finished third in the New Zealand Derby last start. Track conditions might be a slight issue.
2. White Noise (7)
The other New Zealand runner is coming off a seventh in the same Derby, and also doesn’t have a lot of form in the wet.
3. Character (3)
Ran a big race in the Phar Lap Stakes. Third-up, fit, drawn well, looks to handle the conditions and ran second in the Geelong Classic last year, so 2000m is no issue.
4. Maurice’s Medad (1)
Has good form behind some nice runners but was a bit plain last start in harder company. Place chance.
5. Sword Point (6)
One start over 2000m in a benchmark 78, he won by 4 lengths. This is much harder, but can still run a big race.
6. Zoumon (9)
Will likely lead them up here. Will need to go to a new level to win.
7. Jalmari (12)
Ran a big race in the Ajax Stakes behind Just Folk. Made the top 10 for final 400m and 200m sectionals. Will be giving them a start.
8. Satirical Glory (8)
Distance suits but can’t have on recent form.
9. Clyde (5)
Can’t have.
10. Benaud (16)
Will need to improve.
11. Paternal (2)
Bred for 2000m but this is a big step up.
12. Three Wise Men (10)
SCRATCHED
13. Money From The Sky (13)
Can’t have.
14. Tavistorm (14)
Victorian visitor. Take on trust.
15. Brave Boy (4)
Can’t have.
16. Nyika (11)
Can’t have.
