Eleven three year old fillies have accepted for the Group 2 Kewney Stakes over the mile and Ciaron Maher & David Eustace have a strong hand with three runners.  The key lead up is the Angus Armanasco Stakes which was run at Caulfield on February 26 – five of these ran in it.  The current favourite is Argentia.  She is a talented filly trained by the Freedmans and tries the mile for the first time.  Next in the betting is Yearning.  She won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at this distance in the spring.

Barb Raider won The Vanity here first up.  Arktika and Pretty Amazing have won their last two starts.  Lavish Girl was a surprise winner of the Armanasco at a big price, while So You See could not of been more dominant winning at Pakenham on debut.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

1. Yearning

Won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last prep.  Made good ground against the pattern first up in the Armansco.  Well suited at level weights.  Has a great chance here.

2. Lavish Girl

Lead all the way to win the Armanasco last start.  Had bias in her favour and a big sp there.  Happy to risk here.

3. Barb Raider

Talented filly trained by Jerome Hunter.  Knuckled down late to win the Vanity first up after being heavily supported.  Trialled well prior.  Up in distance is a big tick.  Can win.

4. Argentia

Unleashed a powerful turn of foot fresh to win the Kevin Hayes, then was second to Lavish Girl last start.  May have been a touch flat after the big first up effort.  Carries a strong SP into this.  One of the chances.

5. Biscayne Bay

Returns from the spelling paddock.  Was last seen running third in the VRC Oaks over 2500m.  Happy to watch her first up here.

6. Mokulua

Got back and never came on in the Armanasco.  Gets Nash for this but needs to improve.

7. Stray

Comes down from Sydney to run here.  Won a maiden first up then was five lengths away on heavy ground last time.

8. Pretty Amazing

Chis Waller and James McDonald combine with this daughter of American Pharoah.  She has been impressive winning her last two against easier company.  Wouldn’t shock to see her right in the finish here.

9. Arkitka

Unbeaten filly trained by the red hot Maher & Eustace stable.  Dominant maiden winner first up, then looked to have a bit in hand when putting away a benchmark 58 field at Pakenham last start.  Drawn well.

10. Hardly Sweet

Another of the lightly raced up and comers.  Won a maiden by 5.5 lengths two back, then nothing went right last start at Caulfield in the Armanasco.  Forgive. Gets Lane again here.  Place chance at huge odds!

11. So You See

Bolted in at Pakenham on debut.  Plenty of style about the win.  Big step up in grade here but wouldn’t shock to see her measure up.  Roughie with a chance.
