Magic Night Stakes – 2022

Track: Heavy Weather: Mostly Fine with a chance of a shower.

Thirteen runners have accepted for the $175,000 Group 3 Magic Night Stakes. Each trainer is saddling up a runner each with a mixture of interstate, provincial and metropolitan trainers.

The early favourite is the Anthony Cummings trained She’s Extreme who is coming off a solid placing in the Sweet Embrace behind Fireburn on a rain soaked track. She ran home nicely after being eased at the 400m and managed to put the rest of the field to bed by over three lengths. Queen of the Ball is the next in betting and she will be hoping the track improves nicely to enhance her chances. She hated the soft going last start and it will be surprising if they run her with the track still being so wet.

Miss Faberge is the next in betting and in double figures. She is a 50/50 chance to run here being entered in Melbourne as well.

1. Queen of the Ball (5)

Wants a drier track. Drawn well and maps well if they run. Class may get her through but I prefer others.

2. She’s Extreme (11)

Deserved favourite who ran well on the heavy last start. Will improve nicely third-up but is drawn poorly.

3. Moko (7)

Back from 28 day freshen up, Blinkers on first time and winkers off. Unknown in wet, no jockey booked but is entered in Melbourne with a jockey. Can’t have.

4. Celestial Spirit (4)

First-up. Had two starts on wet tracks at both Scone and Doomben. Has had a trial to get her set but she will need to lift to be a chance.

5. Magic Carpet (1)

Made good head-way last start at Canterbury behind Nipotino on heavy going. She has drawn the inside which can give her prime position if she wants it. Could be a knockout chance.

6. Miss Faberge (2)

Coming into this race third-up on the back of a fourth behind Fireburn. Rider stated she wasn’t 100% comfortable in the going. Entered in Melbourne as well. Place chance if she runs.

7. Atoine (8)

Ran well enough first-up at Canterbury. Looks outclassed.

8. Winnertakesitall (9)

Another who is entered in Melbourne. Ran okay in Canberra behind Sweet Ride on soft going. Draw a little awkward. Prefer others.

9. Fun Sunday (10)

Did very little first-up against similar opposition. Will need to improve majorly.

10. Swift Sweet (12)

Hit the line well at Canterbury behind Nipotino. Did get held up at a key stage and it was on the heavy going. Drawn poorly and will need luck.

11. Yankee Hussel (6)

Will need to be better.

12. Regal Inheritance (13)

Looks outclassed based on first-up performance.

13. Seiryu (3)

Forget debut as she was lame. Trialed nicely since. Drawn nicely and winkers go on. May run a race.
