2022 Maurice McCarten Stakes Race Details

Race 5 at Rosehill on Saturday 12th March 2022.

The Maurice McCarten Stakes is a Group 3 1100 metre quality race for the three-year-old’s and upwards run by the Australian Turf Club in March. It is run at Rosehill during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Maurice McCarten 2022 Preview

Track: Heavy Weather: Mostly Fine with a chance of a shower.

Ten runners have accepted for the $160,000 Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes. The Richard & Michael Freedman camp are saddling up two runners whilst every other trainer just has the one entry.

The early favourite is Rule of Law who is unbeaten this preparation and is looking for six wins in a row. He has been slowly stepping up in grade with each run and can make the jump to Group 3 level here. Gravina is next in the betting who returned well first-up on the after a gelding operation. He is another who can make the step up to Group 3 company.

Remarque is third favourite early in the betting and he is returning after a 168 day break.

1. Gem Song (10)

First-up. Will want it a bit firmer. Generally performs well first-up and no stranger to the grade. Prefer others.

2. Rule of Law (3)

Going for six straight. Dominated last start in a small field. Sectionals weren’t too bad. Deserved favourite.

3. Prime Star (8)

First-up. He has an average first-up record though he does like the wet. Will get back from the draw. Place chance.

4. Dream Circle (7)

Beat home Zeyrek and Dealmaker last start who have since won. Loves the wet but the draw indicates they may have to give a start. Place chance.

5. Remarque (9)

First-up. Winkers off-side off first time. Entered in for Melbourne as well. Would rather see on the wet.

6. Spaceboy (4)

First-up. Synthetic hoof filler off. Doesn’t mind the wet and performs well first-up. Drawn ideally. Could give this a shake.

7. The Face (6)

First-up. Goes well first-up and does handle the wet. Has performed at Group 3 level. Rather see him return.

8. Glistening (2)

First-up. The only three-year-old in the field and only filly. Can’t have her on past form.

9. Shelby Sixtysix (1)

Beat home Nature Strip last start behind Eduardo in the Challenge Stakes. Fourth start in four weeks. Big chance again.

10. Gravina (5)

Returned last start a gelding and ran a peak rating whilst beating an okay field by 1.75 lengths. Loves the wet, goes well second-up and is drawn nicely. Will run well.
