The National Sprint – 2022

Track: Soft   Weather: Fine

The National Sprint is always an exciting watch and this year the tempo will be red hot yet again. There are many different form lines being intertwined here and some group-level performers in the mix. Aim has been struggling with form but best efforts would certainly put it into contention and that heads the first line of betting. Chat creates plenty of intrigue from the John Thompson stable and there is a strong affinity with the jockey onboard, Brock Ryan. Country galloper On The Bush is as honest as the day is long and will be rattling home at a price. Cracking race and sure to be plenty of speed on paper.

1. Chat (13)

Looks like the leading contender. Just brings in the right kind of form for this race and there is plenty to like about the booking of Brock Ryan who has had success on Chat in the past. Nicely placed and surprised it isn’t favourite in this field. Just needs a good run in transit to sweep over them.

2. Aim (8)

It’s best efforts goes close to winning this but I’m not sure it’s near that level right now. Struggling with form and battling on the good tracks, I am a bit surprised it is favourite.

3. Ashman (7)

Will land on the speed and fight all day. Waugh is good at prepping them for races like this and Jay Ford is a great front runner jockey. Good each-way claims at a nice price.

4. Irish Songs (11)

Certainly going well enough without winning. Lone run at this track resulted in a win and is in the mix at each-way odds, albeit tricky gate.

5. Marnix (4)

Continues to win and off that must be respected here. 2/2 over the 1400 so certainly has a case against this lot.

6. Dream Runner (14)

Unbeaten at Canberra and does race well fresh. Where Dream Runner lands from the draw is the query but respecting its history at the track.

7. From The Bush (2)

Great horse and knows how to win the big races. Flies over this trip and maps for the run of the race. Great each-way chance but its running pattern does make things hard to watch from a viewers perspective.

8. Jailbreak (5)

Going along okay and the booking of Tim Clark certainly enhances its chances. In the mix against these.

9. Mad As Zariz (13)

Needs the wet which is unlikely. Can’t have.

10. Beachbreak (1)

The booking of Pike adds intrigue but doesn’t bring the right form lines in for this. Deserves to be $18.

11. Meg (12)

One of the better roughies despite the wide draw. 1/1 over the track and trip and 1/1 with Mclucas aboard. Good claims and looks well over the odds at the current time of typing.

12. Up Trumpz (9)

Out of its depth here.

14. Onsettling Down (6)
