WA Sires Produce Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There are 10 runners for the $200,000 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes with two colts, four geldings and four fillies. Four of the runners had their last start in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate over 1200m at Ascot on 2 April, and two in a 2YO Plate over 1100m at Ascot on 9 April. One runner is having her first race start here. Trainer Luke Fernie has three runners in the race.

The betting is fairly open but the early favourite is Snowdome who broke his maiden over 1100m at Ascot last outing. Second favourite is Left The Building who was a narrow winner of the Listed Perth Stakes before 4.6 lengths 5th in the Karrakatta Plate. Third favourite is Penny On The Queen who ran 3rd in the Karrakatte Plate.

Kosta’s Crown finished 4th in the Karrakatta, All The King’s Men won over 1400m at Ascot on 31 March and is the only runner to have won at the distance. Sweep The Leg finished 1.3 lengths 2nd over 1100m while I Love Your Smile is having her first start.  All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2022 WA Sires Produce Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Left The Building

This Exceed And Excel colt is one of three runners trained by Luke Fernie.  He was a narrow winner of the Listed Perth Stakes before 4.6 lengths 5th in the Karrakatta Plate. Has won at the track before and is one of the chances.

2. Snowdome

Broke his maiden with a 1.5 length win over 1100m at Ascot at start number 4  last outing. On a seven day back-up and Brad Parnham retains the ride. Brad has ridden the winner of this race before on Brava Fortune in 2008. Trainer Neville Parnham has also won the race before with Brava Fortune in 2008 and God Has Spoken in 2009. Should fight out the finish.

3. Kosta’s Crown

This Supido gelding trained by Sean & Jake Casey has three places from five starts. He finished 4th in the Karrakatta Plate and it would be no surprise to see him place.

4. All The King’s Men

He was a 1.7 length winner over 1400m at Ascot on 31 March and is the only runner to have won at the distance. Trainer Trevor Andrews has won this race before with Denmarket in 2005 and Luke’s Luck in 2012. One of the chances.

5. Union Jack

This Patronize gelding trained by Paul Jordan has two places from five starts. Finished 5.6 lengths 9th in the Karrakatta Plate. Jockey Craig Staples won this race on Simon Said in 2000. Has drawn the outside barrier and this looks too hard.

6. Sweep The Leg

One of the three Luke Fernie runners. He finished 1.3 lengths 2nd over 1100m at Ascot at his only start. Gets winkers on for the first time and should go well.

7. Penny On The Queen

This Universal Ruler filly has a win and three places from five starts and ran 3rd in the Karrakatte Plate last start at long odds. Could surprise.

8. Nunes

She has had three starts for one placing. Ran 4 lengths 6th behind Snowdome last outing. Jockey Shaun O’Donnell won this race last year on Hoi An. Seems unlikely.

9. Goddess Of Giving

This Playing God filly had her first race start on Wednesday where she finished 3rd of 12 over 1200m at Pinjarra Scarpside. so she is on a three day back-up. Trainer Lou Luciani has won this race four times with Rapid Tripper (1992), Marooned Lady (1995), Snooping (1997) and Hardrada (2002). Jockey Troy Turner has also won before on Motion Pictures in 2010. Perhaps the most interesting runner. Don’t rule her out.

10. I Love your Smile

The third of the Luke Fernie runners is having her first start in this race. Trialled at Belmont. Watch the market.
