Easter Cup – 2022

Track: Good  Weather: Fine

The cup is run over the 2000 for the stayers and the market is headed by Pondus who brings in the right form and looks the one to beat. Grandslam is representing the Maher Eustace stable and has been well backed in early markets. Defibrillate loves to race at Caulfield while Zayydani presents plenty of value in quite an open race.

1. King Of Leogrance (2)

Its best wins this but hasn’t won for a long time. I would like to see a market push.

2. Pondus (7)

Deserves favouritism with the Crystal Pegasus form and just needs a pinch of luck early from the draw to be hard to beat.

3. Spirit Ridge (10)

Lobs on the speed and its best gives this a shake. Has the right form lines but has been disappointing of late. Each-way chance here.

4. Zayydani (19)

Terrible draw but certainly in the mix against these and has a booming turn of foot. Just needs even luck to be in the finish.

5. Nancho (9)

Doesn’t deserve to be $91 against these and wouldn’t surprise but does need luck from the draw. 4/4 over the 2000 so it will stay the trip, knockout chance.

6. Sacramento (11)

On the speed in true Waterhouse style and Childs has been racing exceptionally well. In the mix here.

7. Defibrillate (12)

Unbeaten over the track and tip and loves Caulfield. Sticky draw but right in the mix.

8. King Magnus (4)

Over the odds and loves Caulfield. Decent drop in grade and should be fighting out the finish.

9. Secret Blaze (8)

Reasonable drop in grade so can certainly give this a shake. Each way at odds.

10. Rock (5)

Tough running pattern to catch and has been disappointing this prep. Can win but it looks under the odds.

11. Mandela Effect (6)

Brings across Tasmanian form and isn’t the worst in this field. Its form is better than it reads.

12. Grandslam (14)

Well-backed since markets opened and has contested in some harder races than this. Gets the services of Jamie Kah and looks a great chance.

13. Holbien (3)

Very honest type that lobs on the speed and fights to the end. Barrier 3 ensures an economical run and it looks a good hope.

14. Esti Feny (18)

No jockey booked as of yet. Has good upside but this does look like a tricky race. Flies 2nd up and can show up in the finish.

15. Pancho (16) – SCRATCHED

16. Teewaters (18)

Over the odds and certainly can win this but will need plenty of luck from the draw. Good each-way chance.

17.Milford (1)

Barrier one means it does no work but stuck on one career win from 14 starts is the query. Certainly an each-way hope but more a 1×3 play.
