2022 Champagne Stakes Race Details
Race 4 at Randwick on Saturday 16 April 2022.
The Champagne Stakes is a Group 1 1600 metre set weights race for the two-year-olds that is run by the Australian Turf Club in April. It is normally run at Randwick during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Champagne Stakes 2022 Preview
Track: Soft to Heavy. Weather: Mostly Fine.
Six runners have accepted for the $500,000 Group 1 Champagne Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. Every stable only has one entry each.
Fireburn has opened up as the dominant favourite as she looks to be the first Triple Crown winner since Pierro and the first filly Triple Crown winner since Burst in 1992. She was dominant in the Inglis Sires against similar opposition and there is no reason she can’t make it six wins in a row. She’s Extreme was next in the betting and she was the closest to Fireburn last start, going down by 1.5 lengths.
Williamsburg rounds out the top three in betting and he is coming into this race on the back of winning the Fernhill Handicap, which was a ballot-free race. He won that race convincingly against weaker opposition.

Looks to suit a mile but he will need to overturn a 5.5 length defeat to Fireburn. Place chance.
2. Williamsburg (3)
On a quick backup. Won nicely last start but this is harder. Will fight out the minors.
3. Counttheheadlights (5)
Going up to the mile suits but is fighting out for lower prizemoney.
4. Wealthy Investor (1)
Blinkers Off. Entered for Eagle Farm also. Prefer others.
5. Fireburn (2)
Based on her form, I am not sure there is anything that can beat her barring something going majorly wrong.
6. She’s Extreme (6)
Also running for a place. Improving track helps.
