W H Wylie Handicap – 2023

Fourteen runners have accepted for the 2023 W H Wylie Handicap with 8 geldings and 6 mares. There are five 4YOs, five 5YOs, two 6YOs and two 7YOs. Two runners had their last start in the Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes over 1400m at Morphettville Parks on 26th August  while the rest all came through different races. Six runners are first-up from a spell. Richard & Chantelle Jolly have 2 runners.

The early favourite is She Dances who is first up from a 19 week spell and was 2nd in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes over 120om at her only previous start on this track. Second favourite is Hypothetical who resumed to run 2nd in the Listed Carlyon Stakes over 1000m at Moonee Valley and goes well second-up. Third favourite is Taunting who resumes here and was a big winner of a recent Murray Bridge trial. Grey River is also resuming and comes to hand quickly, while I’mlovin’ya is resuming too and this is her best distance. The rest of the runners are currently $15 or more.

1. Calypso Reign (11)

Resumed from a spell to run 3.6 lengths 4th in the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes over 1200m then was disappointing when always well back in the Leon Macdonald. He is a Group 3 winner and gets the blinkers back on here.Not the worst.

2. Hypothetical (5)

She resumed to run 2nd in the Listed Carlyon Stakes over 1000m at Moonee Valley on 26 August and goes well second-up. She has 5 wins and 5 places from 12 starts and is one of the main chances.

3. Manhatten Times (2)

Ran 3rd in the Behemoth then 3 lengths 6th in the Leon Macdonald. Has a solid record at this track and is a place chance.

4. Zac De Boss (9)

Back from a 6 week let-up and all his recent racing has been at Flemington. Has a good record at this distance and should be competitive.

5. Aitch Two Oh (4)

One of 2 runners for Richard & Chantelle Jolly (the other is Saskatoon). Resumes from a 31 week spell and has been trialling well. Has a good strike rate at this track and distance and is a good chance.

6. She Dances (13)

Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman galloper who is first up from a 19 week spell and was 2nd in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes over 120om at her only previous start on this track. She has won 5 of her 10 starts and is one of the main chances.

7. I’mlovin’ya (7)

Resuming from a 19 week spell and this is her best distance. Can run well fresh and can make her presence felt.

8. Saskatoon (10)

First-up after a 21 week spell and has trialled at Gawler recently. Tend to run better on the Parks track.

9. Taunting (14)

Resumes here and was a 6 length winner of a recent Murray Bridge trial. Has strong form here and it would be no surprise to see him in the finish.

10. Grey River (3)

Resuming and comes to hand quickly. Can place.

11. Sweetened (8)

Finished 3rd when favourite over 1050m here last start but there were some excuses. Place chance.

12. Outpost (12)

On a seven day back-up after a 2.7 length win over 1000m at Morphettville Parks. Prefer others.

13. Portation (1)

Has won 2 of his 3 starts this campaign and has drawn the inside barrier. Rough claims.

14. Saville (6)

Has been racing well this campaign and loves this distance. Sneaky chance.
