Makybe Diva Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 7 at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday the 16th September 2023.
The Makybe Diva Stakes is a Group 1 race held at Flemington Racecourse and is run over 1600 metres. It is held under standard weight-for-age conditions. The total prize money is $750,000 this year.

Makybe Diva Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
A small but high quality field for this years edition of the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes. The top four in the betting Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood, Princess Grace and Osipenko look the key winning chances. All come through the Memsie Stakes which was won by Mr Brightside.
Makybe Diva Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Mr Brightside
Has turned into a winning machine. Won the Group 2 PB Lawrence first up then sat wide in the Group 1 Memsie and proved to be too strong late. Interested to see whether he lands outside lead or the one one here. Either spot should be fine. I think he’s a shade of unders as an odds on chance but is clearly the one they have to beat.
2. Alligator Blood
He stuck on well first up in the Memsie for fourth. The mind floods back to this race last year when he booted clear only to be nailed right on the wire by the late I’m Thunderstruck. If he gets control which looks more likely than not then I think he will look the winner at some point.
3. Spanish Mission
His recent jump out was quite good but he will find these too sharp first up.
4. Aegon
He’s come back well but I’d be surprised if he can win this. He’s a few lengths off the really good ones which he meets here.
5. Francesco Guardi
He ran well in the Winx Stakes first up. This will just be a prep run for something over further.
6. Osipenko
He ran home strongly first up in the Winx Stakes. Then if you watch the start of the Memsie he looked certain to settle top 4 in the run before getting shuffling back and hitting the line hard. Gets to the mile now third up and I think there’s every chance he could lob the leaders back which gives him an each way chance at double figures.
7. Princess Grace
I was really keen on her in the Memsie each way and she ran as well as she could there under the circumstances. Was forced back to the slower lane but kept coming at Mr Brightside for second. Shinn sticks for this. In the mix again.
