The Sofitel 2023 Race Details
Race 3 at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday the 16th September 2023.
The Sofitel is a Listed race held at Flemington Racecourse and is run over 1400 metres. It is an open handicap race for horses four-years-old and upwards. The total prize money is $175,000 this year.

The Sofitel 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
Ten have accepted for the $175,000 Listed Sofitel. Boom Queensland gelding Antino has come up a short priced favourite. He is resuming from a spell and is headed to the Toorak Handicap. The second favourite is Detonator Jack. He wasn’t beaten far at Caulfield first up and gets the services of Jamie Kah. Kalino and Climbing Star look the other key winning chances.
The Sofitel 2023 Runner by Runner
1. King Magnus
Eight year old gelding with a good record. He’s drawn well and is in the mix for the multiples..
2. Antino
Queenslander with an excellent record (eight wins from nine starts). Resumes here off a relatively short spell. If he finds the front they might not see which way he went. Toorak Handicap bound.
3. Detonator Jack
Looked the winner first up at Caulfield and may have just peaked on the run late. Has been back to the jump outs since which I like. The booking of Jamie Kah is significant.
4. Kalino
Failed but had a strong SP two back against some qualities horses at Rosehill. Was strong late at Caulfield last time for this. He can win.
5. Nicolini Vito
Limited but honest. Doubt he can win this.
6. Umgawa
He has been racing well over the Winter months. Like the draw for him. Gives him a place chance.
7. Superium
He was okay at Caulfield first up. Needs to find three or four lengths though.
8. Climbing Star
She has always displayed plenty of ability. Her run first up was good and she gets a nice weight drop for this. Think she will run well.
9. Party Princes
Lightly raced mare from Adelaide who was okay first up at Morphettville against easier opposition. Maps well.
10. Blow In
Down in weight but is significantly up in grade from the races he has been contesting. I don’t think he’s good enough to feature here.
