Race 5 at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday the 16th of September 2023.

The Kingston Town Stakes is a Group 3 race held at Randwick Racecourse and is run over 2000 metres. It is run under set weights and penalties conditions. The total prize money is $250,000 this year.

Kingston Town Stakes 2023 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Just Fine scored with good authority first up and can go on with things in this. Montefilia was enormous fresh before an even effort last start. Major Beel is suited to these and will be hitting the line hard while Navajo Peak was a surprise winner last start but no reason why it can’t make it two on the trot.

Ran 3rd in this race last year. Would like to see a form reversal before considering.

2. Major Beel (6)

Hit the line well last start and is suited to this field. Out in trip is a big plus. Major player.

3. Manzoice (18)

Market watch. Needs to lift but is capable. Respect any moves.

4. Montefilia (3)

Ran 2nd in this race in 2021. Flat last run but loved the first up effort and does have a class edge on this field. Keep safe.

5. Navajo Peak (17)

Surprise winner last start. Won’t be easy from out there but hard to knock off the last start effort. In the mix.

6. Camorra (4)

Can’t have.

7. Protagonist (16)

Strong effort when resuming and finds the right field with the gun jockey aboard. Goes close with even luck from the barrier.

8. Gear Up (15)  – SCRATCHED

9. Bold Mac (10)

Finding form this prep. Respect despite the awkward ally.

10. King Frankel (13)

Strips fitter and like this field for it. Could shock at a price.

11. Sky Lab (8)

Needs a bit to go right to win but loved the first up run. Can give this a shake if the breaks go its way.

12. Bois D’argent (14)

Can’t have.

13. Benaud (7)

Runner-up in this race last year. Surprise winner last start. Harder here but wouldn’t completely shock and is racing in some good fashion.  Goes in the mix.

14. Fancy Man (5)  – SCRATCHED

15e. Al Aabir (9)

Prefer others.

16e. Just Fine (12)

Lovely first up win showing off a neat turn of foot. Can go right on with things in this and deserves to be favourite. Hard to beat.

17e. Parry Sound (1)

Can’t have.

18e. Tazaral (2)

Racing well and goes in the mix from the kind draw. No jockey booked.
