Robert Sangster Stakes – 2022

Track: Good possible Soft Weather: Possible Shower.

Sixteen runners have accepted for the $502,250 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes and there has been one early scratching. The Ciaron Maher/David Eustace stable has three runners entered for the event whilst every other trainer has just one entry each.

September Run has opened the early favourite in the betting following her brilliant win in the William Reid and she will make her first visit to South Australia on Saturday. Bella Nipotina heads to South Australia on the back of her heavy track win in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes and she brings some nice 1200m form to the race, finishing in the top 3 in nine of her eleven starts. Away Game rounds out the top three in the betting and she is coming back from a freshen-up after her failure in the Galaxy.

The race will feature the 2021 and 2020 winners of the race in Instant Celebrity (2021) and Bella Vella (2020) who both have a chance to become the first runners to win the event multiple times.

1. September Run (5)

Cannot ignore how good she was in the William Reid. Drawn perfectly and Craig Williams remains aboard. She will be flying late and is the clear one to beat.

2. Bella Nipotina (3)

She maps well and will be at peak fitness. She is going to look the winner at some point but I think she may get over-run late in the piece. Place chance.

3. Instant Celebrity (12)

Drawn wide hence the price she will be but she won this event last year coming from the rear so there is no reason she can’t do it again. Daniel Moor takes the ride and with a run under her belt, she is a nice each-way chance.

4. Bella Vella (7)

Won first-up after over a year off. Drawn okay but is questionable over the 1200m. She is going to need a peach to win. Place chance.

5. Brooklyn Hustle (10)

She will be peaking in fitness following her placing at Sale where she was wide without cover. Jamie Kah goes aboard and she will likely drop back regardless but the draw will help her get a nice position. Place chance.

6. Away Game (1)

Always runs an honest race but there is a few I have ahead of her but I won’t be surprised to see her in the finish.

7. Snapdancer (16)

First-up after 56 days off. Prefer others.

8. All Banter (9)

Going for three in a row. This is a big step up in grade and she will need a peach to figure.

9. Chaillot (6)

First-up after 56 days off. Gets the visors and synthetic hoof filler on first time. Goes amazing first-up and is drawn nicely but I think this might be just out of reach. Definite place chance.

10. So You Assume (11)

First-up after 210 days. Probably wants further and will use this race as a springboard.

11. Another Award (2)

Going for three-in-a-row but this looks too hard.

12. Gaze Grise (15)

In form but outclassed.

13. Argentia (13)

She is definitely an up-and-comer who is first-up after 56 days. I think she will hit the line well but I can’t have her just yet against the older horses.

14. Heresy (8)

Not impressed with her outing against her own age. Outclassed.

15. Gimme Par (14)

SCRATCHED

16. Champagne Dreams (4)

Looks outclassed.
