D C McKay Stakes – 2022

Track: Good possible Soft Weather: Possible Shower.

Thirteen runners have accepted for the $127,250 Group 3 D C McKay Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. The David Jolly stable and Will Clarken stable have two runners in the race each whilst every other trainer has just one entry each.

Behemoth has opened up the favourite and he will have to lump 62kg in this event. His last run in the C.F Orr Stakes is a complete forgive as he was found post-race to have a poor recovery and he will be coming into this race first-up. Beau Rossa is coming off a 112-day break after a below-standard preparation in the Sunshine State. Ironclad won the Matrice Stakes in nice fashion and was scratched from the Bool for this race.

1. Behemoth (4)

First-up after 84 days. He is 5/8 first-up with two placings. He will have to lump 62kg which itself will be a remarkable effort but he has the class and he draws/maps to get a sweet run throughout. I am expecting a solid showing.

2. Savatoxl (10)

Put a line through his first-up run as he had a poor recovery and had thumps. Goes well over this track and distance but the draw doesn’t help. Should be right in the finish with luck.

3. The Inferno (11)

Can’t have on recent form.

4. Beau Rossa (2)

Goes well here in Morphettville and goes okay fresh. Tongue-tie is back on and he is drawn to get a nice run. Could be a place chance.

5. Ironclad (7)

Was brilliant first-up but the cut back to 1100m has me scratching my head as he looks a horse who wants longer. Should run a bold race nonetheless with Jamie aboard.

6. Dexelation (5)

Was found to have had thumps following a 1.3 length third to two Group 1 girls in Instant Celebrity and Bella Vella. That form itself stacks up well for this race and he is drawn well and maps even better. Big chance.

7. Aysar (9)

First-up 189 days. Prefer others.

8. Free of Debt (6)

First-up 147 days. This looks too tough.

9. Outlaws Revenge (12)

Entered for Caulfield as well. Can’t have.

10. Shamino (3)

Ran well behind Bella Vella last start and drops 4.5kg from the run. Place chance.

11. Larimer Street (13)

Entered for Caulfield also. Can’t have.

12. Miss Albania (1)

Outclassed.

13. Aston Rapova (8)

Outclassed.
