Prince Of Wales Stakes – 2022

There is a field of 14 runners for the $150,000 Prince Of Wales Stakes with nine geldings and five mares. They range in age from four to eight-years-old. Eleven runners had their last start in the Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes over 1000m at Ascot on 15 October, while the remaining three came via different races. Trainer Simon A. Miller has four runners and Neville Parnham has two runners.

The early favourite is Miss Conteki who has won 10 of her 15 starts and resumed to win the Crawford.  Second favourite is This’ll Testya who was a close 2nd behind Miss Conteki when resuming. Third favourite is Wilchino who has great form at this track and distance and can be forgiven for her 4.4 length 11th in the Crawford where she did too much work early. Nerodio is a very honest runner who finished 3rd in the Crawford. Comes A Time won the Nicopolis Stakes then the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes over 1200m on 24 September and must be respected, while Hot Zed was 4th in the Crawford Stakes.  The other runners are currently 16 to 1 or longer.

1. Stageman (11)

This eight-year-old is the oldest runner in the race this year and this is his 4th year racing in it. He ran 3rd in 2019, 4th in 2020 and 2nd in 2021, and each time has used the Crawford Stakes as his lead-up race. Wouldn’t surprise to see him place again.

2. Money Matters (10)

Finished 3rd in the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes then got a luckless run in the Crawford when he was blocked for a run the entire straight and taken back by tiring leaders. Will improve from that where he finished 7 lengths 15th.

3. Indian Pacific (5)

One of two runners for Neville Parnham and ran 3rd in this race last year. Shifted out at the start and lost a plate when resuming for 3.8 lengths 7th in the Crawford. Goes well second-up and has won 4 races at this track and distance. Solid claims.

4. Nerodio (1)

Very honest runner who has 2 wins and 3 places from his last 5 starts. Has the inside barrier here. Finished 3rd in the Crawford and should make his presence felt.

5. Comes A Time (9)

Won the Nicopolis Stakes then the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes over 1200m on 24 September and must be respected

6. Hot Zed (2)

Was 4th in the Crawford Stakes when first up after a 9 week break. Should race on the speed and looks at least a place chance second-up.

7. Iseered Iseered (6)

Resumes from a 13 week spell and can go well first-up.

8. It’sarayday (8)

One of 4 runners for Simon Miller. Finished 2.2 lengths 5th in the Crawford. Blinkers come off for the first time. Prefer others.

9. Panzdown (4)

Finished 7th in the Crawford when first up. Rough place chance.

10. Amasenus (12)

Blundered at the start and finished 12th in the Crawford when resuming from a 20 week spell. Looking elsewhere.

11. Miss Conteki (13)

Has won 10 of her 15 starts and resumed to win the Crawford. That was impressive coming from well back in the field and she looks the standout in the race.

12. This’ll Testya (7)

She was a close 2nd behind Miss Conteki when resuming. Respect.

13. Express Time (3)

First up after 28 weeks and having her first black-type race. Won a recent trial and could surprise.

14. Wilchino (14)

Has great form at this track and distance and can be forgiven for her 4.4 length 11th in the Crawford where she did too much work early. Drawn the outside barrier but her career record of 9 wins from 15 places suggest she can’t be dismissed.
