Rosehill Gold Cup – 2022

Seventeen runners have accepted for the $750,000 Rosehill Gold Cup and there has been one early scratching.

We have lots of different form lines heading into this one, especially with the horses at the top of the market.

Quality Time ($4.50) is the early favourite and he is looking to make it four wins in a row following his solid win in the Port Macquarie Cup. Honeycreeper ($6.00) is on the second line of betting following her unlucky second in the Angst Stakes and she should be primed here third-up.

Bois D’Argent ($6.50) is a U.K horse making his Australian debut and he is trained by Marco Botti. He has won a Listed race in France and I am under the assumption this will be a stepping stone to something bigger in the coming weeks.

Stockman ($7.00) won the St Leger Stakes last time out in impressive fashion and will have his work cut out for him with the poor draw.

1. Stockman (13)

Nice winner of the St Leger Stakes. Has drawn poorly here which is a worry but you can’t deny his form and has to be one of the top chances in this race.

2. Polly Grey (7)

She was bold first up in the Angst Stakes when running 1.6 lengths back in fourth after leading the majority of the race. She wouldn’t want the track to improve too much.

3. Yonkers (9)

Ran 3.2 lengths back in second in the Coongy Cup last time out, beating the remainder of the field by 1.7 lengths. He should be peaking in fitness now and could run a cheeky race at each way odds.

4. Kukeracha (5)

He has been poor so far in this preparation and gets the tongue-tie first time which may just help in throughout. His best goes close but you can’t take him on recent form.

5. Pinarello (11)

Hasn’t done a lot in two runs this time in but he is now out to a more suitable distance range. Will need a peach to win.

6. Lord Ardmore (17)

Raced wide without cover last time out and has drawn poorly here. Hard to have.

7. Bois D’Argent (12)

Listed winner in France and he is having his Australian Debut. Must respect.

8. Quality Time (1)

Going for four wins in a row following his nice win in the Port Macquarie Cup. Drawn ideally and maps to get a soft run. Will go close again.

9. Pappalino (3)

Raced wide without cover first up. Hasn’t won since 2020 when he was trained in France.

10. Star of India (8)

First up for Annabel Neasham and it’s his debut in Australia. Won 2/5 overseas before heading here. Watch.

11. Main Stage (14)

SCRATCHED

12. Hezashocka (6)

Ran okay in the Craven Plate and would want the track to stop drying out. Can’t have here.

13. Dashing Willoughby (4)

Prefer others.

14. Kiss The Bride (2)

Looks outclassed here.

15. Honeycreeper (15)

She was very unlucky last time out in the Angst Stakes and probably should have won. Drawn horribly here and will give them a start.

16. Toomuchtobear (10)

Can’t have him here.

17. Athabascan (16)

Entered for an easier race earlier and drawn better there.
