Coolmore Stud Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Overcast

A vintage field has been assembled for the stallion making Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and the James Cummings & James McDonald combo will be out to win yet another spring feature with In Secret.  She is one of four fillies in this years field.  Jacquinot was a very good run in the Everest and its noteworthy that Home Affairs blew them away in this race last year coming off an Everest run.  The Price/Kent combo have two runners – Grand Impact looks the best of their chances.

1. Jacquinot

Star colt trained by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.  Won the Golden Rose with a barn storming finish, then was a very game run in the Everest.  Love the draw.  Will go close here if there is some petrol left in the tank.

2. Best Of Bordeaux

Is on the quick back up after running third against the older horse in the Manikato Stakes at the Valley last week.  The wetter the better for her.

3. Sejardan

Stormed home to win the Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley last week.  This is tougher.

4. Lofty Strike

Was placed in the Blue Sapphire at Caulfield first up in testing conditions.  Will derive good benefit from that.  Not out of this.

5. Nettuno

Queenslander who has had all three runs in Sydney this campaign.  Needs to improve a good few lengths on what he has been doing to run in the top four here.

6. Buenos Noches

Went within a nose of toppling the Everest winner Giga Kick over 1100m here last start.  The trial in between runs was good.  Handles the straight!

7. Grand Impact (Nz)

Unbeaten colt who won the Blue Sapphire at his last start.  Looked to have a bit in hand there and I love the booking of Zahra.  Can go close assuming the inside ground is no disadvantage.

8. Economics

Was going to jump an odds on favourite in the Sapphire before being scratched due to the state of the track.  Win in the Heritage was excellent and the second horse Opal Ridge has since won well.  The gap between runs is my concern.

9. Meridius

Ran home well from the back in the Caulfield Guineas and gets gun international rider William Buick.

10. Doull

Was an impressive winner here on debut in May.  Two subsequent runs haven’t been good enough to win here and I thought the recent jump out was only fair.  Prefer others.

11. Great Barrier Reef

Looks out classed here.

12. Custodian

From a leading stable but doubt the Gothic Stakes form is strong enough.

13. Bews

Recent jump outs have been excellent and gets blinkers for first time.  Doesn’t appear to want it too wet.

14. Coolangatta

Saved from the Manikato last week to run here.  Won the Moir at her last start beating subsequent Group 1 winner Bella Nipotina but did have favours with a hot rail.  A strong 1200m is still a query for me.

15. In Secret

Bolted in, in the Run To The Rose, then was heavily backed in the Golden Rose and was only collared in the last stride by Jacquinot.  She skipped the Everest which could be advantageous.  Recent jump out was good and she has that man James McDonald.

16. Queen Of The Ball

Won the Champagne Stakes two back.  Rough place chance.

17. C’est Magique

Was pretty unlucky at Caulfield last start in an easier race.  Would not shock to see her finish in the top 5 or 6 at big odds.
