Carbine Club Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Overcast

Solid race to kick off the card and plenty of different formlines engaged. James Mcdonald rides the favourite Pungo who showed good will to win last start and the trainer Waller has a strong record in the race. Tijuana continues to race well, is proven on the track and brings some very strong form. Sandpaper is an interesting runner and has UK jockey William Buick booked representing the Godolphin camp. It comes off a good last start win and can go on with things here. The Fortune Teller and Elkington Road both must be respected as well coming out of the same race as Tijuana. Not much between this bunch ability wise.

1. Tijuana (2)

On top here. Comes out of the same race as a few of these such as The Fortune Teller and Elkington Road. Not only is the form ride, Tijuana has a map advantage over its rivals, is a winner at the track and simply should get every chance from the draw. Tricky race but top selection.

2. Sandpaper (5)

Gets UK gun jockey William Buick in the saddle and comes off a strong win last start. Buick will give it every chance from the nice draw and Godolphin are in unbelievable form at the moment. Big chance.

3. Liberty Steps (4)

Prefer others.

4. The Fortune Teller (12)

Comes out of the same race as a few of these and was by all means a pass mark. Allen will need to be at his best from the wide draw but The Fortune Teller brings in the right form and comes from the right stable. Can win.

5. Lincoln Square (7)

Going along okay but would have to lift off last run to take this out. Respect any market moves.

6. Elkington Road (11)

Has to give this a shake and brings in formlines around Golden Mile and Elliptical which has been franked again since. The draw isn’t helpful but Elkington Road has been racing exceptionally well and should be hard to hold out in this.

7. Rediener (8)

Continues to race well and is hard to knock here. Comes out of the Waller yard and he has an excellent record in this race. Prebble does the steering for the first time. Top 4 chance.

8. Watadeel (10)

Watadeel looks a solid chance here, just needs some luck from the draw. It ra well behind a subsequent winner. Whether that is the right form for this remains a query but it has been well backed in early markets and rates a solid chance despite the draw.

9. Big Story (13)

Can run into a place but will need luck from the draw and prefer the form of others here.

10. Lindermann (6)

Prefer others.

11. Perfect Thought (9)

Hard to ignore the form Williams is in. Has been racing okay but this is a decent rise in depth. Place chance.

12. Pungo  (1)

Loved the last start win launching from the same barrier to find the line well and beat an okay field. James McDonald takes the steer and the trainer, Waller, has an excellent record in this race. Harder here and overall the run didn’t rate that well however the upside must be respected and it can take the next step here.

13. My Brothers Keeper (3)

Good win fresh and suited to the trip. Prefer the form of others but can run into a top 4 spot.
