Wakeful Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Overcast

Good race with plenty of chances. Jenny Jerome comes up with a wide draw but should run a bold race in this and gets Lane in the saddle. As Time Goes By is still a maiden but brings in some nice form. Pavitra was mowed down late after setting the speed last run and should give a bold sight in this field while Zennzella has come back well for the new stable and will take some holding out.

1. Jenny Jerome (14)

Jenny Jerome will take some holding out in this field but will need a bit to go right. The stable usually like them ridden off the speed and Lane will likely have to go back from the draw but it should eat up the 2000 and give backers a sight. Hard to beat with even luck in running.

2. Pavitra (2)

Pavitra has been racing well and has the running pattern to give this a shake. The consistent Joshua Parr takes the steer and from barrier 2 should give them something to chase. It appeals at the price.

3. So Dazzling (6)

Was a very ‘patient’ steer last run and looked to be left very late. Should be hard to beat in this field and ran closing splits that suggest the 2000 is perfect. Oliver is in questionable form but I have it on top.

4. Let’sbefrankbaby (8)

Going along okay but the form is questionable. Willing to respect any market moves.

5. Whakamana (12)

Sound in open company last run and has the right upside to give this a shake. I have my doubts on the draw but if it can find a back to latch onto in the running line it can go close.

6. Zennzella (15)

Made a mess of a moderate field last run but did it in a professional manner. The stable are the best in the land at stayers and they have the best jockey booked in James Mcdonald. Equal on top and hard to beat.

7. Thinking Rain (16)

Prefer others.

8. As Time Goes By (1)

Still a maiden but racing well and deserves a win. Melham will have options from the draw and 2000 looks to suit. A query on running the trip like most of these but finished off last race suggesting the rise in trip is a plus. Keep safe.

9. La Gioia (11)

Can’t have.

10. Queen Air (7)

Still a maiden but luckless last run and the 2000 looks ideal. Will need a pinch of luck from the draw but this race is within reach.

11. Makrana (9)

Hit the line well behind a few of these last run. Dee will need some luck from the draw but is certain to run out the 2000. Whether it is looking for further is a query. Top 4 chance.

12. Grey Northern (5)

Prefer others.

13. Whispering Lady (10)

Was okay last run. In form jockey aboard but prefer the form around others in this.

14. Uptick (13)

Prefer others.

15. Barbwire Baby (3)

Can’t have.

16. Artocracy (4)

Prefer others.
