Eleven runners have accepted for the John Letts Cup, with eight geldings and three mares. They range in age from four to eight-years-old, and Tony & Calvin McEvoy have two runners. Third favourite is Miss Gobcain who was a 3.3 length winner at this track and distance back in July. Oh Mo finished 2.6 lengths 7th in the Murray Bridge Cup, Farooq finished 8th, while Morty finished 6th.The other five runners are currently 12 to 1 or longer.

2022 John Letts Cup Runner by Runner

1. Sign Of Ussuri (5)

One of two runners for Tony & Calvin McEvoy. Tony won this race with Brown Ben back in 2017. This six-year-old Fastnet Rock gelding finished 2.5 lengths 6th over 1800m at Sandown Hillside on 7 September, then was a 0.2 length winner of the Coleraine Cup over 1800m on 23 September last start. One of the key chances.

2. Farooq (9)

This seven-year-old Frankel gelding is trained by Sue Murphy at Naracoorte. At the end of last campaign he ran 3.3 lengths 3rd in the Apsley Cup over 2000m at Casterton on 12 June, then was spelled for 17 weeks He resumed for 3.3 lengths 8th in the Murray Bridge Cup coming from 15th. Rates highly with Dom Tourneur aboard ( he won this race on Chickaloo in 2006) but the horse tends to need his second-up run.

3. El Gladiador (8)

Steven Patemen at Geelong trains his six-year-old gelding. He ran 9 lengths 5th over 2040m at Moonee Valley on 30 September, then finished 1.8 lengths 5th over 2000m at Morphettville on 22 October. Prefer others.

4. Oh Mo (10)

The oldest horse in the race is this eight-year-old Uncle Mo gelding. He finished 0.9 lengths 3rd in the Listed Balaklava Cup over 1600m on 14 September, then was 2.6 lengths 7th in the Murray Bridge Cup. Could place.

5. Perfect Route (2)

Dead-heated for the win over 1400m at Morphettville Parks on 1 October, then faded for 4.6 lengths 11th in the Murray Bridge Cup. Hasn’t won beyond 1550m and is better over shorter.

6. Resurge (11)

The 2nd of the McEvoy runners. Ran 7.3 lengths 6th over 2000m at Caulfield on 27 August, then 4.8 lengths 6th over 2000m at Caulfield on 17 September. Has drawn the outside barrier and others have better chances.

7. Morty (3)

At the end of last campaign he won the Provinicial Super Series Final at this track and distance on 14 May. He resumed from a 20 week spell for 1.3 lengths 4th ove 1550m at Morphettville Parks on 1 October, then finished 6th in the Murray Bridge Cup. Capable of being in the finish.

8. Six Foot Song (7)

This four-year-old Toronado gelding has 2 wins and six places from 15 starts, but both wins were at this distance. He came from the back of the field for 3.6 lengths 5th over 1600m at Morphettville on 8 October, then ran on from well back for a narrow win over 1800m at Morphettville on 22 October. On a 7 day back-up. In the mix.

9. Miss Gobcain (4)

She was a 3.3 length winner at this track and distance back in July. Her last 2 starts were 0.3 length 2nd over 2500m at Morphettville on 3 September, then 5.4 lengths 6th in the Pinker Pinker Plate over 2025m at Cranbourne on 7 October on a Heavy track. One of the key chances.

10. Divine Diosa (1)

Drawn ideally in barrier 1. She finished 1.5 lengths 3rd over 1600m at Mornington on 24 September, then 6.7 lengths 3rd over 200m at Caulfield on 12 October. Rough place chance.

11. The Map (6)

The least experienced horse in the field, this four-year-old mare has raced only 10 times for 3 wins and 2 places. She finished 3.3 lengths 4th over 1600m at Morphettville on 8 October, then was a good winner over 1950m at Morphettville Parks on 15 October. I think she is a genuine chance here.
