Thomas Lyons Stakes 2023 Race Details

Race 6 at Hobart Racecourse on Sunday 12th of February 2023.

The Thomas Lyons Stakes is a 1400 metre weight-for-age race run by the Tasmanian Racing Club in early February. It is held at Hobart on Hobart Cup day.

FIRST ACCUSED and REBEL FACTOR look the main speed influencers, along with SIR SIMON and DARK WANDERER. MYWORDIS, ALPINE WOLF, MANDELA EFFECT and BLAZE FORTH should lob behind the speed, followed by THE INEVITABLE and JUST A TRIBUTE out the back.

The Inevitable – Rated Price $1.70

Back to his best this campaign, and his wins couldn’t be more impressive. Drawn a middle alley Pires has options on who to follow into the turn. He should be able to outsprint these late and be winning enroute to the All-Star Mile. The one to beat.

Mandela Effect – Rated Price $18.00

Been going well. Gets a good jockey on here and should get a nice suck run in behind the speed. Prefer him out in trip but if the tempo is genuine he should be strong late. One for exotics.

Blazeforth – Rated Price $61.00

Old war horse who is flying under the radar. Ran some great sectionals home in his last couple and if there was to be a blowout he could be the one. Ignore at your own peril.

First Accused – Rated Price $18.00

Going okay after a long prep. Track and trip specialist and should be up on speed and giving a sight. Not sure he can beat the top couple but can run a solid race.

Alpine Wolf – Rated Price $20.00

Coming back in trip off a solid Devonport Cup run where they ran good time. The spruik has worn off a touch and this looks a gamble to figure out what distance he’s working towards next time in. Some hope.

Sir Simon – Rated Price $36.00

The old grey. Should be bowling along on-speed to ensure a good tempo is set for the stable mate. Looks tested in this field but can run in the first half dozen without surprising.

Mywordis – Rated Price $51.00

Not sure he can make the leap from Benchmark grade and be in the finish here. Looks tested despite the great map.

Rebel Factor – Rated Price $4.30

The up and coming sprinter in TAS coming off an impressive victory since running 2^nd to The Inevitable in the Conquering. Should press forward from the gate and looks the one the favourite has to catch in the final 100m. Will be in this for a long way. Huge chance.

Just A Tribute – Rated Price $33.00

Useful gelding who has strong together a great preparation winning 3 of 4. Looks outclassed here but should be hitting the line well late.

Dark Wanderer – Rated Price $31.00

Another one coming from Benchmark grade. Not sure he’s going as good as he has previously this campaign. Looks tested here.

Thomas Lyons Stakes Summary

Looks to be a two-horse race. I think THE INEVITABLE should repeat the dose of the Conquering Stakes and salute with a strong finish over the last furlong. REBEL FACTOR is the main danger and can give him something to chase.
