Roma Cup 2022 Preview

Track: Good to Soft Weather: Shower or Two.

Sixteen runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Roma Cup and there have been no early scratchings. The Simon Miller stable and Chris/Michael Gangemi stable will each saddle up three runners in this contest whilst every other trainer has just one entry each.

We have nine runners coming out of the Northam Stakes which was won by the favourite of this race Elite Street by the narrowest of margins. Seven of these runners ran in this race last year with Elite Street being the best of them, finishing second. Red Can Man was a narrow second to Elite Street first-up though unfortunately, he will meet him 2kg worse off from that narrow defeat.

Amasenus brings the different formlines to this race and she is one of the two mares entered for this contest. She is going for three in a row following her 1.25 length win in the Sheila Gwynne Classic.

Roma Cup Runner by Runner

1. Valour Road (8)

First-up after 161 days. Goes okay first-up but he will definitely be hitting the line hard.

2. Elite Street (5)

Meets his opponents from last start a minimum 2kg better off for the win. He will improve nicely second-up, is drawn well and should be hard to beat.

3. Massimo (16)

Held up at the 400m behind Elite Street last start when running fourth. Horrible draw here. Place Chance.

4. Red Can Man (1)

Almost saluted first-up against Elite Street. Drawn ideally and again will be in the finish.

5. Laverrod (10)

Distant third first-up behind Elite Street. Will be giving him a start once again.

6. Indian Pacific (7)

Went poorly first-up and the excuse was that it was too firm. Should be softer for him here but he will need to majorly improve.

7. Carocapo (15)

Can’t have.

8. Cup Night (9)

Needs a big effort to over-turn last starts run behind Elite Street.

9. Samizdat (9)

First-up and has won 4/7 first-up. Could run a cheeky race.

10. Free Trade (6)

First-up after 350 days. Will need the run.

11. Comfort Me (13)

Can’t Have.

12. Nerodio (4)

Could run a cheeky race first-up.

13. Notorious One (12)

Can’t have first-up.

14. Kaptain Kaos (14)

Outclassed.

15. Flirtini (2)

Will need to improve.

16. Amasenus (3)

Going for three in a row. Solid place chance.
