2022 Rough Habit Plate Race Details

Race 7 at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday 14th May 2022.

The 2022 Rough Habit Plate is being held at the Eagle Farm Racecourse this year as heavy rain has made Doomben unsafe. The distance has been changed from 2000m to be run over 2,143 metres. It is a Group 3 race run under set weight conditions for the three year olds. The total prize money is $250,000.

Track: Heavy Weather: Rain

The market is headed by Character for the Godolphin camp who on best form will be very hard to beat here but does remain some query in the wet. Dark Destroyer creates interest coming off a huge run in the Guineas. Pinarello comes across from N.Z and has been kept safe while Verona was super impressive first up and looks hardest to beat in an even field.

1. Character (5)

Huge chance in this field. Maps perfectly and the booking is a great push. The main query is the record on the heavy with 4 goes for just the one placing so it’ll be banking on the track being somewhat dry to be competitive in this. Huge chance pending conditions.

2. Tutukaka (12)

Has ticked the Eagle Farm box which some of these haven’t. Barrier 12 doesn’t make things easy but Nash Rawiller is a strong rider and can put it into the race at the right time. Some hope.

3. Dark Destroyer (15)

Huge player despite the awkward draw. Has the right form and the jockey knows the horse extremely well.

4. Cape Breton (2)

Going along well and maps for the right run. Has a few lengths to find on Character but is a 2 time winner on soft so does get that advantage.

5. Pinarello (14)

Has some good overseas form and a market watch is advised.

6. Caboche (18)

Likes the heavy ground however barrier 18 is never easy to win from at Eagle Farm.

7. Balmaurice (7)

Can’t have.

8. Southern Stock (10)

Will see out the trip and handles the conditions so off those 2 factors looks a major player in this race.

9. Menazzi (11)

Will get back in the run and hit the line hard. Menazzi has a sharp turn of foot but will need the gaps to open in this large field.

10. Satirical Glory (3)

Found form again last run but don’t like its chances on the heavy.

11. Ashgrove (16)

Big last run and Jamie Kah is a substantial booking. Has to be respected despite the tough draw.

12. Dark Rebel (4)

Certainly a chance in this bringing across the NSW form. Does no work from the draw and handles the conditions, over the odds.

13. Ruach (1)

Market will be the best guide.

14. Verona (8)

Suited by the heavy conditions and the stable are in extremely good form at the moment. Extremely good chance in an even race and fits the profile to win this.

15e. Impel Gazelle (13)

Continues to win and handles these conditions. Some query on the form but hard to knock winning form.

16e. Anythink Goes (6)

Brings across NSW form and handles the conditions. Looks a great chance in this field and should be able to land into a plum spot from the draw.

17e. Global Ausbred (9)

The stable have a large opinion of this one. No jockey booked yet but will enjoy the wet and land somewhere prominent.

18e. Paternal (17)

No favours from the draw and this does look a tough assignment.

19e. Antonio Giovanni (19)

This looks a bit too tough.
