2022 JRA Chairman’s Handicap Race Details

Race 3 at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday 14th May 2022.

The 2022 JRA Chairman’s Handicap is being held at the Eagle Farm Racecourse this year as heavy rain has made Doomben unsafe. The distance has been changed from 2000m to be run over 2,143 metres. It is a Group 3 for the 3-year olds and older and is run under quality handicap conditions. The total prize money is $150,000.

Track: Heavy Weather: Rain

A very open affair this year with not much separating the top few in the market. Yonkers drops back sharply in grade from the Chris Waller stable and will be hitting the line with intent. Djukon, its stablemate, has opened up favourite and was luckless last start and will be looking to atone in this. Our Intrigue is also from the Waller yard and will relish the rise in trip while Star Of Michelin looks massively suited to the switch of track to Eagle Farm where it has won 5 from 12.

1. Yonkers (10)

Waller is one of the best trainers in the country and he knows how to place them. Yonkers has class on these and looks a huge player on form and ability.

2. Dashing Willoughby (8)

Would like to see a market push but is getting out to a suitable trip and could surprise these at odds.

3. London Banker (6)

Has been poor this prep however is 3 wins from 5 attempts over the trip and has never missed the placings at Eagle Farm. Big odds and has been overlooked by early markets.

4. Our Intrigue (5)

Very good form for this race and maps to get the gun run with Will Pike aboard. Should be in the finish and deserves to be favourite.

5. Djukon (13)

Suited here third up and does enjoy a soft track. Barrier 13 doesn’t give Berry any favours but is a chance in an even field.

6. Seat Of Power (2)

Can be an improver from the suitable draw and maps to run a good race. Missed out in my selections but still giving it plenty of respect in this field.

7. Star Of Michelin (9)

The transition of track is a huge tick for Star of Michelin who has won 5 from 12 at Eagle Farm. Doesn’t want it too wet but is suited over this distance and on this track. Likeable at odds.

8. Humbolt Current (1)

Very hard to catch but loves this track having only missed the quinella once from 5 goes. Wouldn’t surprise at all but doesn’t want it too wet.

9. Smart Meteor (12)

Little bit disappointing of late but does have ability when on song. Should be suited by the tempo and just needs to lift a bit on current form to figure.

10. Honorable Spirit (11)

Battling for form and this looks no easier.

11. Lunasnit (4)

Tricky to catch but seems to really click with Collett having ridden Lunasnit 4 times for 2 wins. Her booking is crucial to tis chances and warrants respect in this race.
