How to pick a winner

2022 Bright Shadow Handicap Preview

Track: Heavy Weather: Rain

One of the more open races of the day with a very even field engaged. The favourite Juan Diva brings some strong form from Victoria and leading booking Tommy Berry is doing the steering. NZ raider Babylon Berlin creates interest with James Mcdonald on and East Asia will be flying to the line coming off a spell and mapping to sit just behind the speed. Value in the race is created with the super consistent Winside & Centrefire who should relish the heavy conditions yet again. This is an even race and there will be a solid tempo.

2022 Bright Shadow Handicap Runner By Runner

1. Babylon Berlin (12)

Will need some luck from the draw but one of the best in the land is booked in James Mcdonald. Handles heavy ground and strikes a winnable race, well placed and deserves to be in the market.

2. Written Beauty (8)

Luck in running crucial for Written Beauty but she does have plenty of ability and certainly is up to a winning a race like this. Solid each-way hope.

3. Kylease (11)

Would like to see a market push before considering as this looks tougher than its first up run.

4. Kisukano (9)

Her best wins this but she’s been extremely hard to catch of late and is in need of another win. Can take this out but looks a touch risky at the current price.

5. East Asia (5)

Market a good guide to its chances but has a lethal turn of foot and should park into a nice position from barrier 5. Solid chance.

6. Iconic Star (6)

Handles these conditions however is yet to find the podium at Eagle Farm. Market watch advised.

7. Juan Diva (1)

Capable and should be suited if the track dries out a touch. Will need a touch of luck from barrier 1 with its running pattern so Berry will need to be finding the gaps at the right time but looks suited and should go close to taking this out with even luck.

8. Eloquently (14)

Was well backed first up and failed to fire. Has the class and ability when right so a market watch is advised.

9. She Can Sing (20)

Going to be awfully tricky from barrier 20 and it is historically hard to win from wide draws at this track. Needs luck and deserves to be longer odds.

10. Centrefire (3)

Major player if the track is genuinely heavy. Maps well and races well at the track, considerable overs in this and 1/1 with Samantha Collett aboard. Superb chance at odds.

11. Tahitian Dancer (13)

1/1 at the track and Kah booked. Will be requiring some luck from the draw but does tick a few boxes.

12. Our Bellagio Miss (10)

Looks the wrong price here pulling up with excuses last start. Has a very strong heavy record and Brock Ryan is racing well at the moment. Can take this out at large odds.

13. Lashes (19)

Needs luck from the draw and has a hard to catch running pattern. Can’t have.

14. Palaisipan (18)

Needs a stack of luck from the draw but does have the ability and certainly no knock with the form around Apache Chase.

15. Boomnova (21)

Barrier 21 will be a very hard task however is a winner at the track and in soft conditions. Not hopeless but needs luck from the draw.

16. Enterprise Pomme (16)

Has been racing extremely well and can go close if it secures a spot up front. There will be plenty of speed on here so whether it can handle that is another question but does enjoy this track and distance. Solid chance.

17e. Chezlblack (4)

Been a little disappointing this prep and this looks too tough.

18e. Our Birdsong (7)

Brought across from Victoria and had been threatening to win a race prior to last start. Some hope.

19e. Winside (2)

Huge chance at odds. So consistent, handles the conditions, maps well and draws well. Even luck in running and I expect Winside to be there at the finishing line.

20e. Tara Jasmine (17)

Getting away from Grafton is the worry for Tara Jasmine. Has loads of ability but prefer her on the home deck. Can win but prefer others.

21e. Letzbeglam (15)

Requires luck from the draw but brings the right form and with even luck in running has the credentials to figure in the finish.
