Moir Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 7 at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Friday the 29th September 2023.
The Moir Stakes is a 1000 metre weight-for-age race for horses three-years-old and over run by the Moonee Valley Racing Club. It is held at Moonee Valley in late September or early October.

Moir Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Clear
Just the eight of them are set to go around in the Group 1 Moir Stakes. Kiwi mare Imperatriz has been instilled as an odds on favourite following an impressive first up win in the McEwen Stakes and should prove hard to beat. Uncommon James is on the next line of betting. He’s a Group 1 winner and has been well backed since the final field was announced.
Moir Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Rothfire (1)
Was second here first up behind Imperatriz. Keeps Shinn but would need Imperatriz to rate down to be beating her. Place preferred.
2. The Inferno (8)
Was a huge run in this race two years ago, flying home from the back to just miss. Not going as well as he was.
3. Uncommon James (7)
Has been well backed early off of a good jump out and strong form last prep. Won the Oakleigh Plate before placing in The Galaxy. Gets a read hot Damian Lane!
4. Zoustyle (3)
Finished fourth in the McEwen first up. Try’s hard but doesn’t have the class to be winning this.
5. Generation (2)
Blinkers first time. Has run well at this level around the Valley before and has drawn to do no work.
6. Acromantula (4)
None.
7. Imperatriz (5)
Kiwi mare who was simply awesome winning the McEwen here first up. Won the William Reid here over 1200m last prep too. Think she will be a touch closer in the run here than she was first up. Clearly the one they have to beat.
8. Asfoora (6)
Talented mare who did it easy in The Heath first up. This is a step up but she showed last prep she can match it at Group 1 level. Chance.
