Following the early scratching of Speranzoso there are 14 runners remaining for the 2024 Lord Reims Stakes with 9 geldings and 5 mares. There is one 4YO, five 5YOs, four 6YOs, one 7YO, two 8YOs and one 9YO. Two runners had their last start in the Listed JRA Plate over 2006m at Morphettville on 10th February (won by The Map) and two in a BM 72 Handicap over 2500m at Morphettville on 10th February (won by Wheels) while the rest all came through different races.

The early favourite is The Map who won the JRA Plate when resuming a fortnight ago. Second favourite is Grand Promenade who goes well at this distance range. Third favourite is Unusual Pearl who is chasing a hat-trick after wins at Sandown and Moonee Valley. Hasta La War finished 3rd in the JRA Plate. All other runners are currently $10 or longer.

1. Canford (7)

This 9YO won this race 2 years ago. At his latest start he ran 2nd to Wheels in a BM 72 Handicap over 2500m at Morphettville on 10th February after winning by 2.8 lengths the start before. Honest galloper who is racing well and is capable of placing.

2. Hasta La War (9)

Finished 3rd in the Listed JRA Plate over 2006m at Morphettville on 10th February (won by The Map) when resuming after a 14 week spell. Rough chance.

3. Grand Promenade (3)

Ran 3rd in this race last year and goes well at this distance range. Chance.

4. Yellowbrick Road (1)

Was a narrow winner over 2100m at Sandown Lakeside on 7th February after surviving a protest for bumping. Drawn the rails. Not the worst.

5. Speranzoso (11)  – scratched

6. Sandastan (13)

Murray Bridge galloper who comes off 3 consecutive wins – one over 2150m at Oakbank and two over 2500m at Murray Bridge. He has won by good margins and despite his long price he is worth a small each-way wager. Don’t dismiss.

7. Call Me Vexatious (8)

Finished 3rd to Wheels and Canford in a BM 72 Handicap over 2500m at Morphettville on 10th February. This is a massive rise in grade. Unlikely.

8. Zoffala (15)

Drawn the outside barrier and hasn’t shown anything in 2 starts this campaign. Looking to others.

9. Eight On The Dot (10)

Last-start winner over 2150m at Oakbank on 9th February to finally break his maiden at start number 21. Very unlikely.

10. Tullaghan (4)

Has never won beyond 2000m but has been grinding home OK lately. Prefer others.

11. The Map (5)

She won the JRA Plate when resuming a fortnight ago and has 7 wins from 24 starts with 4 wins at this track. Has won up to 2800m and looks a winning chance.

12. Dixie Whistler (12)

This mare has placed at her last 5 starts and is on a 7 day back-up after running 3rd over 2250m at Morphettville Parks. Not the worst.

13. Rapinoe (6)

Victorian mare who was a narrow winner over 2500m at Moonee Valley on 16th February. Could surprise.

14. Unusual Pearl (14)

This 4YO mare is the youngest runner this year and is chasing a hat-trick after wins at Sandown (2400m) then Moonee Valley (2500m). Awkwardly drawn but looks to be a key chance.

15e. Voila La Valse (2)

Still a maiden after 21 starts. No.
