Premier’s Plate Race History
In 1879 the Queen’s Birthday Cup was first run as a Stakes Race over 2 miles (about 3200m) at Victoria Park and won by a horse called Richmond who was an Australian Cup and AJC Derby winner. Later on it became known as the Birthday Cup and in 2022 was changed to the Premier’s Plate. In 2024 it became the JRA Plate.
