Furious Stakes -2020

Following the scratching of La Vernazza eleven runners remain for the $200,000 Furious Stakes. Five of the runners had their last start in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes held two weeks ago on 22 August, and two of them are resuming from a spell. The early favourite is Hungry Heart who won the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes then ran 5th in the Golden Slipper at the end of last campaign. She resumes here after 24 weeks and is apparently looking better than ever. Second favourite is Dame Giselle who resumed for a strong win in the Silver Shadow Stakes and always goes well at Randwick. Third favourite is Vangelic who ran 2nd in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at the end of last campaign and resumes after two trials.

Thermosphere resumed for a close 2nd in the Silver Shadow Stakes but has drawn the widest barrier here. Forbidden Love resumed from a 16 week break with a 1.5 length win in a fillies & mares BM 72 handicap, but this is much harder. Stellar Pauline resumed after 22 weeks to score her maiden win by 2.28 lengths over 1100m at Hawkesbury on 20 August but had already shown ability earlier in the year when 2nd in the Sweet Embrace Stakes. Chianti won a Class 1 at Hawkesbury when resuming on 20 August and now has two wins from three starts. All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

1. Dame Giselle

She resumed for a strong win in the Silver Shadow Stakes and has a good record at Randwick with two wins and two places from five starts here. A major hope and should fight out the finish.

2. Stellar Pauline

Resumed after 22 weeks to score her maiden win by 2.28 lengths over 1100m at Hawkesbury on 20 August but had already shown ability earlier in the year when 2nd in the Sweet Embrace Stakes. I expect her to run well.

3. Hungry Heart

She won the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes then ran 5th in the Golden Slipper at the end of last campaign. She resumes here after 24 weeks and is apparently looking better than ever. A big chance and should at least be in the trifecta

4. Thermosphere

Resumed for a close 2nd in the Silver Shadow Stakes at $17 but has drawn the widest barrier here. She won the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes in March and is capable of placing.

5. Vangelic

She ran 2nd in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at the end of last campaign and resumes after two trials.Not the worst.

6. La Vernazza  – SCRATCHED

7. Redoubte’s Image

She finished a respectable 4th in the Silver Shadow Stakes where she had the best last 600m race sectional of the day. A rough hope.

8. Philizzy

She resumed for 6th in the Silver Shadow Stakes and this looks too tough for her.

9. Miss Canada

She won a maiden at Newcastle then ran 3rd in the Silver Shadow Stakes, which was excellent with such a big class rise. Not the worst.

10. Forbidden Love

She resumed from a 16 week break with a 1.5 length win in a fillies & mares BM 72 handicap, but this is much harder.

11. Chianti

Won a Class 1 at Hawkesbury when resuming on 20 August and now has two wins from three starts. This is much tougher,

12. Orpheum

This filly won a maiden handicap in a close finish on 26 August. This is a massive class rise and she may struggle,
