The race was first run as a Listed race over 1200m at Rosehill in 1979 where it was won by Ingenue. In 1982 it was moved to Canterbury until 1996 apart from a few years when it was run at Rosehill. In 1987 it was upgraded to a Group 3 race and in 2006 it was moved to Randwick. It was upgraded to the current Group 2 status in 2013 and was run at Warwick Farm that year and also in 2011 and 2015. It has been run at all four Sydney tracks and has been at Randwick from 2016 onwards.
