How to pick a winner

Fred Best Classic Preview

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

Prince Of Boom just keeps winning and looks to add to the picket fence in this. Startantes had no luck last start but again may need some more luck again from barrier 10. Star jockey Jamie Kah has been booked and must be kept safe. Ranch Hand found form last start and is a chance to go on with it. Not a mountain of speed in this.

Fred Best Classic Runner by Runner

1. Alpine Edge (9)

Been a little disappointing lately but can take this out if it finds its old form.

2. Prince Of Boom (3)

Just keeps finding a way to win and was very tough last start staving off a smart one. Drawn well and strikes the perfect chance to add to the picket fence.

3. Kiss Sum (2)

Maps to perfection, finds an in form jockey and has the right formlines. Yet to win from 4 goes at the track is the query but major player in this.

4. Ranch Hand (16)

Won last start and can go on with it here, albeit barrier 16 won’t be easy but still must be respected.

5. Flying Crazy (15)

Lowered the colours of the well hyped Andermatt last start and that looks the right form for this. Massive hope despite the draw.

6. Minsk Moment (4)

Just keeps racing well and has never missed the quinella at the track. Excellent hope at strong odds.

7. I Am Lethal (18)

2/3 over this trip but needs to improve on form. Keep one eye on the market.

8. Bend The Knee (19)

Won’t be easy from the draw and needs to lift on current form.

9. Vilana (11)

Can find a spot up on the speed and looks a major player in this race without a whole stack of tempo in it. The $21 is over the odds.

10. Battleton (17)

Didn’t have much luck last run but barrier 17 isn’t easy. Some hope at odds, respect the market late.

11. Meritable (12)

Can’t have.

12. Loch Eagle (20)

Does have the right form lines but barrier 20 is tricky. Must be some hope here but needs luck from the draw.

13. Arantee (14)

Big chance if it can slot in from the draw. Only on 5 career starts and showing stack of early promise. Major player here.

14. El Vencedor (1)

Can’t have.

15. He’s All Mingo (5)

Hard to knock but this is a steep rise in grade. Chance for a top 4 spot.

16. Startantes (10)

Horror watch last start. Short enough here from the tricky draw but Jamie Kah steering is an excellent move.

17. Mokulua (13)

Impossible to catch, can not have.

18. Bulloo (7)

Going along well enough, wouldn’t shock but couldn’t fit it in my top 4.

19e. Mystic Aroma (6)

Not hopeless at $201, worth a speck each way with the good draw.

20e. Bump’n’Run (8)

Can’t have.
