Doomben Cup – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

All eyes again on 2021 winner Zaaki who looks very hard to beat and can land on the speed from the wide draw and take a mountain of running down. Huetor has been building up steadily and looks well placed here by Chris Waller. Polly Grey enjoys a wet track and dished it up to Zaaki last time, it wouldn’t have to improve much to take this out. A competitive race and more open than the market suggests.

1. Zaaki (10)

Won this race last year. With a drier track now should be putting this lot away.

2. The Chosen One (3)

Has to find a lift on its form. Keep an eye on the market but couldn’t have it in the numbers.

3. Kukeracha (5)

Racing well and does enjoy a wet track. Hans’t missed the quinella at Doomben and looks a chance for the first four.

4. Yonkers (1)

Excellent return and can not be dismissed in this. 1/1 over the track and trip, chance at odds.

5. Great House (9)

Comes into play the more the track drys out. Classy galloper when on song but can mix form a little. Chance to fight out the finish if the track gets into the soft range.

6. Huetor (2)

Major player in this. Has been hitting the line well and looks nicely placed by Waller. Fires 3rd up and this stage of its preparation and maps kindly. Unbeaten over the 2000 and the $2.40 is a good betting proposition for the place.

7. Maximal (6)

Has been disappointing in Australia thus far. Prefer to see.

8. Esti Feny (8)

Not hopeless at odds and is unbeaten 4th up. Knockout hope.

9. Polly Grey (7)

Gave Zaaki a scare last start and with the wet deck expected can do so again here. Should be closer to the favourite in the market and must be respected again.

10. Coventina Bay (4)

Going well but this is a tough race. Keep an eye on any market moves.
