Belmont Sprint – 2022

Track: Good  Weather: Mostly Sunny.

Seventeen runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Belmont Sprint with one of those acceptances being an emergency, and there have been no early scratchings. The Chris/Michael Gangemi stable will each saddle up three runners in this contest, The Simon Miller stable and Luke Fernie stable will saddle up two runners in the event whilst every other trainer has just one entry each.

We have ten runners coming out of the Roma Cup which the promising Elite Street won by under a length. Of those ten runners, Red Can Man finished second on the day by 0.8 of a length, and will open up the favourite for this race. Last year’s runner-up of this event Valour Road will again line up to try and take the sprint and he is also coming out of the Roma Cup, finishing 3.9 lengths back in fourth. God Has Chosen brings an unfamiliar form line out of a benchmark 78 but he is also shooting for three wins in a row this preparation.

Amasenus will round out the top four in the betting and she is the only mare to contest this race. She wasn’t disgraced running third in the Roma Cup and will look to go even better in this contest.

First-up after 174 days. Rather watch.

2. Valour Road (4)

Bold in the Roma Cup and will improve from the run. 1400m suits and again won’t be far away.

3. Massimo (16)

Very plain in his last two, prefer others.

4. Platoon (1)

First-up after 84 days. Wants further, should be hitting the line.

5. Red Can Man (5)

Taken Elite Street to the very end in both runs this preparation. Handles 1400m and again drawn well. One to beat.

6. Laverrod (15)

Can’t have on his recent performance.

7. Dig Deep (6)

First-up after 168 days. Will want further but handles 1400m no worries.

8. Tellem We’re Comin (11)

First-up after 147 days. Another who handles 1400m well but could want further.

9. Samizdat (14)

Can’t have.

10. Free Trade (13)

No excuses from last start. Can’t have.

11. Nerodio (12)

Ran well first-up in the Roma Cup and looks set for a good preparation. Might have been a good place bet at 1200m not 1400m.

12. Notorious One (9)

Can’t have.

13. Yeah Dardy (17)

Drawn horribly and didn’t show a lot first-up.

14. Kaptain Kaos (10)

Will improve up to 1400m and Chris Parnham has elected to ride him. Ran credible in the Roma Cup. Should improve.

15. God Has Chosen (7)

Going for three in a row in a much harder class. Will be better in time but this looks a test at this stage.

16. Amasenus (3)

Ran a bold race in the Roma Cup but just got too far back. Drawn similarly here and she will like thee 1400m, hopefully, they ride her a bit more positive. Solid chance.
