Kingsford-Smith Cup – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

Open race with the classy Paulele representing the Godolphin camp and James Mcdonald booked to take the steer. Entriviere brings the right formlines and looks hard to beat while Isotope is in the mix from the Tony Gollan yard. A fair bit of speed is expected in the race pending scratchings.

1. Private Eye (16)

Looks a massive price despite the draw. Getting back onto a drier track should help its chances as well as the switch back to Brisbane. 1/1 at the track and if they can make ground on the day it will be hard to hold out late in the piece.

2. Laws Of Indices (21)

Awful barrier to overcome but should relish getting back onto a dry deck and if they are running on throughout the day Law Of Indices has a massive hope in this race.

3. Ellsberg (12)

Doesn’t have much diversity with its running pattern but can win if it finds the front. Certainly has taken a liking to the wet tracks but will see drier ground this time around. Some chance but does like finding the front and that will not be easy from barrier 12.

4. Eleven Eleven (4)

Should be stalking a hot speed and Bowman will just need to wave gaps at the right time to have Eleven Eleven hitting the line with steam. Great chance in this.

5. Apache Chase (6)

Only been nabbed on the line its past 2 runs. Apache Chase just doesn’t know how to run a bad race and is likely to find the rail from barrier 6. Should land on the speed and give backers a sight for their money.

6. Wild Planet (19)

Lacking form at the moment and needs to find its best to be in the finish here. Hard to have.

7. Rothfire (14)

The best version of Rothfire puts this race away but unfortunately hasn’t been able to recapture his old form since the injury. Hard to have.

8. Olmedo (3)

Not hopeless at odds Olmedo and will be doing no work from the draw. The stable is in outstanding form and have to respect the placement in this.

9. Signore Fox (11)

Classy galloper that does map awkwardly but can take this out at handy odds. In the mix in a very competitive race.

10. Sierra Sue (20)

Barrier 20 makes things very tricky to Sierra Sue. Has had an outstanding last 12 months but this doesn’t look an easy assignment from the draw.

11. September Run (7)

Extremely tricky to catch but does have the turn of foot to win. Never can be ruled out but a hard one to back.

12. Entriviere (17)

Hardest to beat in this race but barrier 17 does no favours. Just where Entriviere gets to in the run is the query but does demand serious respect in this race.

13. Paulele (8)

Paulele brings in Mazu form which does read outstanding for this. Suited back onto firmer footing and James Mcdonald steers, big respect.

14. Isotope (13)

Not drawn well but that is the case with most of its rivals. Needs luck in running but capable of winning a race of this kind.

15. Away Game (18)

On the verge of retirement which is quite sad. Absolute star galloper, will need plenty of luck from the draw but I would love to see her in the finish in this. Capable.

16. Brooklyn Hustle (5)

Never been one of mine to back and tends to be extremely costly for punters. Continually backed late including last start and always hitting the line hard. With luck, can certainly win but luck is always involved with Brooklyn Hustle.

17e. Scallopini (9)

Lands on the speed and gives a great sight. Nice chance at generous odds.

18e. Niccanova (10)

Can’t have.

19e. Jamaea (15)

Can give a sight if it gets into the field. Has a massive turn of foot when right and will be relying on a drying track.

20e. Ranch Hand (1)

Good win last start. Barrier 1 is awkward for its running pattern but wouldn’t shock in this.

21e. Alpine Edge (2)

This looks too tough.
