The Australian Derby is a Group 1 race held at Randwick Racecourse and is run over 2400 metres. It is for horses aged three-years-old and is run under set weight conditions. The total prize money is $2,000,000 this year.

Australian Derby 2024 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
Zardozi peaked on the run last start but there was plenty of merit to it. She will be very hard to beat in this. Riff Rocket has been superb this prep and will yet again prove hard to hold out. Tom Kitten is a major player from barrier 3 and maps to have its chance from there. Much harder here for Wymark but very hard to pot the way it has been going.
Australian Derby 2024 Runner by Runner
1. Riff Rocket (10)
Hard to knock. Took 0ut the Rosehill Guineas and is having a stellar prep. Maps a little tricky but gets the best in the business steering and should go close.
2. Tom Kitten (3)
Has the ability but continues to run punters dry. Can’t have at the price.
3. Ceolwulf (5)
Nice upside and hit the line hard last run. Should be able to get a good run in transit from the draw and Shinn steers.
4. Cap Ferrat (7)
Should enjoy the rise in trip but unknown on the heavy and gets an out of form Nash steering.
5. Ganbare (1)
Can’t have.
6. Immediacy (13)
Has lovely upside and continues to race well. Tricky draw and unknown on the heavy but has claims here.
7. Wymark (14)
Keeps going from strength to strength. Maps sticky but has been dynamic in runs to date and continues to win. Hard to knock in this and is very progressive.
8. Noisy Boy (8)
Prefer others.
9. Glad You think So (4)
Can’t have.
10. Adagio (11)
This looks too tricky.
11. Zenmaster (9)
Can’t have.
12. Hooligan Tommy (12)
Leaning to others.
13. Saxon Brave (6)
Can’t have.
14. Zardozi (2)
I was keen on her last weekend and she peaked on the run after trading very short and looking like she was going to be the winner. Maps well from barrier 2, she loves soft conditions, should enjoy this distance range and is a huge chance here in this suitable race.
