Abell Stakes – 2023

Track: Good Weather: Warm

This is a really tricky race with a lot of these either resuming or out of form.  In The Boat is unbeaten around the Valley and is the current $4 favourite.  Lady Of Honour is next in the betting, then a gap to Lombardo, Doull and Florescent Star.

1. Lombardo

Last years Group 1 Goodwood winner.  He weakened first up in the Canterbury Stakes after an economical run in transit.  This is easier.

2. In The Boat

Won this race last year. Resumes.  Just had the one run in the spring, sticking on okay off a wide run in transit.  His three jump outs have been okay but certainly not spectacular.

3. Frankie Pinot

First up.  Finished fourth in last years Goodwood but hasn’t done much since and will be spotting them a big start here.

4. Mileva

Struggled in the Oakleigh Plate first up.  This is easier.

5. Lady Of Honour

Another of the the resumers.  She jumped out well recently at Flemington and will settle handy.

6. She’s All Class

First up.  Is a very capable mare on her day and maps to do no work from the draw.

7. Imperial Lad

Back from a short let up.  Rough hope.

8. Florescent Star

Chased hard here two back, then wasn’t far away at Flemington.  Ready to peak third up.

9. I Am War

Caught fire last prep winning four of his last five starts.  In the mix.

10. Belsielle

Was good winning a Fillies and Mares group 3 in Tassie last start.  Knock out chance if they are making ground.

11. Doull

Was an impressive Flemington debut winner last May then I just don’t think he came up in the spring.  Resumed at Sale and won running away from easier opposition.  Maps to stalk the speed.
