The SAJC Chairman’s Stakes is a Group 3 race held at Morphettville racecourse over 2000 metres. It is for horses aged three-years-old and is run under set weights conditions. The total prizemoney is $127,250 this year.

Following the early scratching of Captain Pluto, 14 runners remain for the Chairman’s Stakes. There are 3 fillies, 10 geldings and one colt. Four of the runners had their last start in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas over 1800m at Morphettville on 15 April, two in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes over 1800 at Morphettville on 15 April and two in a 3YO Handicap over 1600m at Sandown Lakeside on 8 April, while the rest all came via different races. Trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) and Mark & Levi Kavanagh both have 2 runners.

The early favourite is Loco who just missed over 1600m at Sandown Lakeside on 8 April. Second favourite is Suizuro who ran 3rd in the Group 1 Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick on 1 April. Third favourite is Ain’t He Grand who comes off 4th in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate over 2000m at Randwick on 15 April. The rest of the runners are currently over $10.

Ran 3rd in the Group 1 Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick on 1 April. Drawn the inside barrier and looks a winning chance.

2. Ain’t He Grand (15)

Comes off 4th in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate over 2000m at Randwick on 15 April. Place chance.

3. Loco (5)

One of two runners for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr (the other is Ravin).  Just missed over 1600m at Sandown Lakeside on 8 April and gets the blinkers on for the first time. Has a win and 2 places from 3 starts and will run well.

4. Red Sun Sensation (8)

Has a win and 4 places from 8 starts. Up in distance from last start. Place chance.

5. Thirsty Guest (13)

Ran on from well back in the field to grab 3rd in the Port Adelaide Guineas. Should go well.

6. Prince Tikea (14)

Comfortably held in the Port Adelaide Guineas. Unlikely.

7. Captain Pluto (12)  – SCRATCHED

8. Impending Link (2)

Won a 1600m maiden plate at Pakenham at his 3rd start. This is a big class rise.

9. Superstock (10)

Won over 1450m at Kilmore on 30 March then was 2nd over 1600m at Terang on a heavy track. Not the worst.

10. Verifier (9)

Has placed in 2 runs out of 3 this campaign. Sneaky place chance.

11. Karaka Kiwi (7)

Unplaced in all 4 runs this preparation. Unlikely.

12. Sir Kingsford (4)

Finished 5th in the Port Adelaide Guineas. Fitter now.

13. Rich Result (3)

Prefer others.

14. Whispering Lady (11)

Was a 3.8 length winner of an 1850m maiden at Terang on heavy going. Should be competitive.

15. Ravin (6)

Finished 1.5 lengths 5th in the Auraria Stakes. Could place.
