VRC St Leger 2023 Preview

Track: Soft Weather: Clear

The early scratching of Samuel Langhorne leaves eleven to go around in the time honoured VRC St Leger.  This looks a very even race on paper.  Midnight Glow was the best placed finish in the key lead up the Galilee Series Final and he comes up favourite here.  The second favourite is Roaring Engine who gets the blinkers on as well as leading hoop Jye McNeil.

VRC St Leger 2023 Runner by Runner

1. Midnight Glow

Just missed here last start in the Galilee Final.  Looks a leading chance again. Just needs to run the 3000m.

2. Nightsun

Was a good run in the St Leger Trial two back, then regressed to finish seventh in the Galilee Final.  Wouldn’t shock to see him bounce back.

3. Highland Hill

Lead in the Galilee Final and was a bit disappointing there on face value.

4. Kentucky Nick

Finished fifth in the Galilee Final.  Needs to find a couple of lengths.

5. Roaring Engine

Has been very good through the line at his last two.  Looks like he is going to lap up the 3000m with the blinkers going on for the first time.

6. Final Overture

Jumps sharply up in trip after a run in the Port Adelaide Guineas last start.  In the mix.

7. Highland Blaze

No match for the older horses here last start.  This is easier.

8. Musgrave

Was a solid run in 58 company last start.  Hard to line that form up.

9. Pulveriser

Swan Hill maiden winner last start.  Prefer others.

10. Samuel Langhorne  – SCRATCHED

11. Dunwoody

Blinkers go back on and gets J Childs but he needs to improve many lengths to be a factor here.

12. Winning Bid

Has been well backed in early betting.  Was second in a strong maiden last start.  He can win.
