Anniversary Vase 2023 Race Details
Race 9 at Sandown Racecourse on Saturday the 29th April 2023.
The Anniversary Vase is a Listed race normally held at Caulfield over 1400m but is at Sandown Hillside this year. It is run under quality handicap conditions. The total prize money is $175,000 this year.

Anniversary Vase 2023 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Clear
Twelve have accepted for the Listed Anniversary Vase. Cardinal Gem won well last start and is the current favourite in the early betting. He has to carry 60kg this time around but is a logical favourite. Megamea and Lady Of Honour are quality mares and both look set to peak at their third runs back from the paddock. Cherry Tortoni for the lethal combo of Payne and Eagan resumes and loves soft ground.
Anniversary Vase 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Cardinal Gem
Talented four year old who was a good winner here last start when carrying the minimum weight. Rises to 60kg now and may need a touch of luck from the inside gate.
2. Cherry Tortoni
Resumes off a lengthy spell. He’s a talent on his day and has a very good record on soft ground.
3. Crosshaven
Has been a while since he has won but was a good run at Bendigo last start. Place preferred.
4. King Magnus
Another resuming off a lengthy spell. It wouldn’t be a shock to see him run well here first up.
5. Buffalo River
Worked early and as a result tired late in the Victoria Handicap first up. Fitter for that. Can improve.
6. Lady Of Honour
I really liked her run in the Victoria Handicap last start when third behind Cardinal Gem. Gets a nice weight swing on that horse and looks ready to peak third up. Can win.
7. Bermadez
Thought his run was solid enough in the Discovery first up. Probably has to go back from the draw here which is a negative but if they are making ground I wouldn’t be shocked to see him in the money.
8. Riddle Me That
Has been given a month between runs. Maps for a nice run and is a first four chance in this.
9. Imperial Lad
Speed influence. Prefer others.
10. Flash Aah
Has a handy first up record. In the mix.
11. Soldier Of Love
First up for the Nathan Hobson barn. Happy to watch him.
12. Megamea
Was second here against the mares last start. Gets a nice weight drop for this and loves wet ground.
