Randwick City Stakes – 2023

Track: Fine Weather: Good

Sacramento gave an excellent sight 2 weeks back as our best bet. A bit tardy away and couldn’t get control of the race. If it can find the front it will be very hard to run down. Its record over this trip is excellent and it should give a strong sight in this field. Soulcombe pulled up lame fresh and has to be forgiven. Bullfinch is an interesting runner up in trip and looks the best of the rest if it sees out the 2000.

1. Soulcombe (8)

Soulcombe pulled up lame fresh so best to forgive that run. It has proven in the past it can handle this trip and it looks a case of Soulcombe or Sacramento that will be winning this race. Big danger to the on top selection.

2. Torrens (10)

3/6 at Randwick so if Torrens is getting a win it will be here. Barrier 10 isn’t ideal and it has a poor 4th up record but can’t be dismissed on this track.

3. Sacramento (5)

Like Sacramento in this. I was bullish about it a few weeks ago but couldn’t get control of the race. Kicked on very well late and has an excellent record over this trip. Hoping it can find then front as it will take some pegging back.

4. Sir Lucan (3)

Hasn’t run for a few years. Barrier 3 is ideal. The market will prove vital towards its chances.

5. Bonny Ezra (9)

Becoming very hard to catch and gets no favours from the draw. Mixes form and prefer others in this.

6. Raging Bull (4)

0/5 at Randwick and 0/2 over this trip so there is a query over Raging Bull’s past efforts over the track and trip. Quality stayer that has won third up. Might just need one more run.

7. In A Twinkling (7)

Prefer in something easier.

8. Athabascan (2)

Import having its 3rd run in Australia. Suited by the rise in trip and kind draw. Has some nice form over in France. Keep an eye on the market moves.

9. Bullfinch (6)

Interesting decision to have Bullfinch up to the 2000. If it can see out the trip it goes in the mix and does bring in the right form to give this race a shake. Top 3 chance.

10. Aravene (1)

Was very plain last start. Has shown ability early doors and must be respected with the decision of going up in grade here but down in weight. Sneaky chance, keep an eye on market moves.
