Track: Good Weather: Fine

A field of fifteen remain after the scratchings of Osipenko & Lindermann for the Group 1 Australian Guineas.  The C S Hayes is the key lead up with the top seven finishing positions in that race all taking their spot in the race.  The favourite Jacquinot has been well backed in early betting.  He took out the C F Orr Stakes at Sandown against the older horses at his last start.

1. Jacquinot

Gun three year old who won the Group 1 Golden Rose in the spring.  Unbeaten this prep winning the Manfred first up, then the Group 1 C F Orr against the older horses at Sandown last start.  Drawn absolutely perfectly out in eleven for him.  The one they have to beat.

2. Elliptical

He was second in the Caulfield Guineas and second in the Spring Championship in the spring.  Resumed in the CS Hayes where he was dragged right back from the outside gate and was forced to race wide with out cover.  Still managed to reel them into win.  Maps to settle much closer here second up from the inside alley.  The logical danger to Jacquinot.

3. Osipenko  – SCRATCHED

4. Mr Maestro

Backs up after finishing second in the Autumn Classic at Sandown last week.  Prefer him over further.

5. Virtuous Circle

Did some nice things last prep including a runner up finish behind Berkeley Square in the Moonee Valley Vase.  He was only fair first up.  Another who is looking for further.

6. The Fortune Teller

Was solid first up in the Autumn Classic and I like that he has jumped out in between runs.  Maps for a gun run again here.

7. Bank Maur

Quinella’d the Manfred with Jacquinot first up, then wasn’t beaten far when well fancied in the Hayes.  Will need luck from barrier 17.

8. Amenable

Was very unlucky in last years Caulfield Guineas.  Flashed home for second in the Autumn Stakes first up and has since jumped out like a rocket at Cranbourne.  Barrier 1 makes things tricky with his racing pattern but if the breaks come his way it won’t surprise to see him in the finish.

9. Elkington Road

Was 4th in the CS Hayes first up.  Drawn to get a similar run again here.  Place chance.

10. Lindermann  – SCRATCHED

11. Muramasa

Was the big flashing light run in the CS Hayes running the fastest last 200m sectional of the race.  Probably has to go right back again here from barrier 16 which is going to make it tough.  Waiting for him third up.

12. Maximillius

Had fitness on his side when running a place in the CS Hayes last start.  1600m a query for me.

13. Holymanz

Was second in the CS Hayes after being given an absolute peach of a ride from Johnny Allen.  First 4 chance again here but I’m not sure he has the class to be beating the top couple of fancies in the betting.

14. Attrition

Ran a cracking race despite having no luck in the CS Hayes.  Kah goes on now.  Each way chance.

15. Legarto

Kiwi galloper who took out the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton back in November.  Gets a red hot Michael Dee and a nice barrier.  She is the naught on the roulette wheel.

16. Laced up Heels

Can’t have.

17e. Japanese Emperor – 1st EMERGENCY

Gains a start following the scratching of Osipenko.  Prefer others.
